Wrestling roundup: Monty Tech's Paulino finishes second at New England Championships

New England Championships: Monty Tech's Jonah Paulino placed second in the 132-pound bracket, falling to Ponagansett's David Perez via pinfall in 3:56 in the final at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.

Paulino earned a pinfall win over Agawam's Nicholas Ugolini in 1:35 to win his first match, then recorded a 19-4 decision over Norwalk's Phoenix Gardella in a quarterfinal and defeated Xavier's Kevin Kasperowski via pinfall in 44 seconds to reach the final.

Paulino's teammate Cooper Wiebe fell to New Fairfield's Joe Mahoney in the round of 32 at 126 pounds.

Leominster's Dan Greaney (144 pounds) and Anthuan Lino-Diego (285 pounds) each reached the round of 16 in their brackets, while Shepherd Hill's Sawyer Ayotte reached the round of 16 at 150.

Nashoba's Daniel De Almeida fell to Central Catholic's Nathan Blanchette by pinfinall in a q175-pound quarterfinal, and Blackstone Valley Tech's Landry Fitzgerald, who competes for Bellingham as part of a co-op, lost in the first round of the 285-pound bracket to Jayden Kuilan of Manchester (N.H.) by pinfall at 4:28.

In the girls' tournament, Monty Tech's Kaleigh Fuller placed fifth at 152 pounds, losing a 9-5 decision to Central's Hannah Brewer. Marlborough's Angeles Munoz took sixth at 185 pounds, while Worcester Tech's Asliyah Rivera lost in the first round at 120.
