Worcester, Cooperstown, Delhi open sectional playoffs with home wins

Feb. 20—The Worcester girls opened sectional playoff action with a convincing 71-30 home win over Franklin in Tuesday's Class D First Round contest.

Hailey Shalor led the Wolverines with 21 points, all of which came on the strength of seven three-pointers.

Allison Boyle and Samantha Tompkins each finished in double-figures as well with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Leading Franklin in scoring were Shannon Kingsbury and Tamara Wright with 10 points apiece.

Worcester will be at South Kortright in Friday's quarterfinal matchup.

Cooperstown 48, Cato-Meridian 30

The Cooperstown girls notched a 48-30 win over Cato-Meridian at home Tuesday in the Section III Class C playoffs.

Rory Nelen had a strong all-around game for the Hawkeyes, finishing with 15 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, six blocks and four assists.

Elsewhere, Mia Kaltenbach scored nine points, Tori France had eight points, three steals and two assists and Katie Crippen notched seven points, five rebounds and four steals.

Cooperstown will be at Weedsport Friday in the sectional quarterfinals.

Delhi 64, Candor 28

Delhi rolled to a 64-28 home win over Candor Tuesday in the first round of the Section IV Class C playoffs.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the game on a 23-4 run and never let up from there.

Natalie Vredenburgh led the offense with 24 points while Tyler Abts had 12 points and five steals and Dannielle Ennist finished with nine points and four assists.

Delhi will visit Moravia Friday in the sectional quarterfinals.

BOYS BASKETBALL

The Cooperstown boys saw their season come to an end Tuesday with a 52-47 home loss to Sandy Creek in the Section III Class C playoffs.

Brody Murdock led the Hawkeyes with 17 points while Charlie Lambert had 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks while Cooper Coleman added nine points.

Hudson Hunt was the top scorer for Sandy Creek with 20 points.

Cooperstown ends the season with a record of 11-10.
