Who won, who performed well in area girls sports over the last week?

MARION — A couple weeks after reaching the 1,000-assist plateau, Pleasant senior setter Emerson Williams set a school record in volleyball.

In a heartbreakingly close match with Galion (ranked No. 7 in Division III), the Spartans lost 3-2 with the fifth set going to 22-20. Still, Williams handed out 54 assists to break the previous school mark by Carlie Craycraft.

Also in the match for the Spartans, Kamryn Cocherl put down 21 kills, eight blocks, 11 digs, three aces and 23 points; Kenzley Davis added 12 kills and five blocks; Kylee Lacroix had 12 kills, and Brooklin Davis had nine kills.

In a 3-0 loss to Ontario, Cocherl had 15 kills, Williams 27 assists and Kenzley Davis six kills and three blocks. The Spartans bounced back for a weekend 3-0 win over Northmor as Williams produced 35 assists, Cocherl 20 kills, eight aces and three blocks, Brooklin Davis seven aces and Lacroix seven kills.

More Volleyball

● Marion Harding took care of Clear Fork 3-1 with Nyla Sharp-Holmes recording 16 digs, Jaela Woods 14 kills, Emily Ratliff 10 kills and Miana Taylor seven aces.

Highland, ranked 13th in Division II in the first state poll, topped RV 3-0. For the Scots, Larsen Terrill had 37 assists and seven kills, Kameron Stover 26 kills, 11 digs and four aces, MaKaylee Merckling 18 digs and Reagan Maibach seven kills. In a quad meet at Westerville Central, the Scots got by Dublin Jerome 2-1 with Stover getting 22 kills and 12 digs, Terrill 28 assists, nine kills and 12 digs and Savanna Sanborn 10 digs. In a 2-0 win over Adena, Stover led with 17 kills and four aces, Terrill added 26 assists, 10 digs and seven kills, and Camryn Miller had 11 digs. In a 2-0 win over the hosts, Stover put up 14 kills and four aces, Terrill 19 assists and eight kills, Sanborn four aces and Miller three aces.

● North Union's Sienna Ballinger had 14 kills and Zoe Wedding 20 assists in a 3-0 win over Shawnee. In a 3-0 loss to Indian Lake, Emma Padovano had eight kills and Kennedy Harrah 15 digs. Reynoldsburg slipped by the Wildcats 3-2 as Ballinger had 12 kills and four aces, Harrah 16 digs and 20 assists, Wedding 20 assists and Lindsay Willis 25 serve receptions.

● River Valley dropped a 3-0 match with Shelby. For the Vikings, Kendall Smith served 13 of 14, Myla Kenney hit 24 of 29 for four kills, Hayley Wickersham was 54 of 56 setting for 11 assists, and Carley Cerny had 21 of 23 serve receptions.

● Cardington beat Ridgedale 3-2 with the fifth set going 15-12. For the Rockets, Hannah Cook produced 29 assists and 10 digs; Lauren Leslie 19 digs, 12 kills and 16 serve receptions; and Camryn Thiel 16 digs, 18 serve receptions and 13 points.

Golf

● North Union's Madelyn Taylor shot a 46 to lead her team to a 208-238 win over Benjamin Logan. Charlee Brestle added a 53, Kelsie Price a 54 and Savannah Queen a 56. In a 215-219 victory over Indian Lake, Taylor shot 50, Kaylee Rensel 52, Price 54 and Brestle 59.

● In a 209-214 loss to Madison, Highland's Ceci Grassbaugh was medalist with a 39 and teammate Ryleigh Dewart shot a personal record 54 in a match at Wyandot.

Tennis

● Pleasant swept Galion 5-0 with Maura Murphy, Katie Jordan and Hannah Miller winning in singles and Kylie Klaiber/Anya Miller and Anna Wenig/Lauren West winning in doubles. The Spartans also took second at the Sam Sabback Invitational in Bucyrus as every player made the finals.

● Marion Harding stopped Galion 4-1 with Raina Smith and Sierra Silverio taking singles points and Autumn Silverio/Sophie Beechum and Kaia Berry/Abbey Hoertz taking doubles points for the Presidents. In a sweep of Buckeye Valley, Audrey Feasel, Smith and Sierra Silverio in singles and Autumn Silverio/Beechum and Lauren Alspaugh/Abigail Hanke all won. Autumn and Sierra Silverio were the only Harding winners at second doubles in a 4-1 loss to Shelby.

Soccer

● Highland freshman Aston Prest recorded her first varsity hat trick with three goals in a 6-2 win over Marion Harding.

Cross Country

● At Seneca East's Stars, Stripes and Lights Invitational, Highland was ninth out of 17 teams with Kindylle Mallow 25th in 21:40 and Riley Matthews 31st in 22:00. Cardington's Magi Hallabrin was ninth in 20:37 and Gracie Meade 17th in 21:17.

● In the Division III race at Seneca East, Mount Gilead's Kimberly Staley was eighth in 20:14.

● Pleasant was fifth and Marion Harding sixth at the heat-shortened Farmbanks Invitational at Fairbanks. Harding's Leah Price was fourth in the two miles in 13:06 with Laina Camp 23rd in 16:02 and Kamryn McDonald 27th in 16:14. For Pleasant, Sarah Jordan was sixth in 13:54, Nicole Robinson 14th in 14:55, Olivia Meyers 15th in 15:05 and Whitley Baumgartner 22nd in 15:46. Gilead Christian's Seraiah Campbell ran in 14:45.

● Price was fourth in 20:58 at the Zane Trace Invitational. Harding was 11th as a team.

● North Union completed at the McGowan Invitational at Watkins Memorial and took eighth in the Division III race. Lauren Hall was 18th in 21:48 and Kalin McElroy 24th in 22:29. Northmor's Kate Lehman was sixth in 21:15, Natalie Hunter ninth in 21:39 and Ryann Brinkman 15th in 22:56.
