Now inside of a week-and-a-half away, the countdown is on to the drop of the green flag for the 66th Daytona 500.

No, really. There's a countdown. We'll get there.

Anyway, Speedweek begins on Sunday and as the Super Bowl wraps up and the country's sports attention moves to Daytona, we have you covered on every angle of what to expect in the 2024 Great American Race.

Daytona Duels 2024

On Thursday night, the Bluegreen Vacations Duel at Daytona will be held. While qualifying on Wednesday will set the front row for the Daytona 500, spots 3-40 will be settled during one of two qualifying races held on Thursday.

Cars that qualified in odd-numbered positions on Wednesday will be grouped into one race while even-numbered qualifiers will take part in the second. The first of these races will be held at 7 p.m. with the second scheduled to start after its conclusion, at approximately 8:45.

How long is the Daytona 500 track?

Daytona International Speedway is a 2½-mile tri-oval. Turns 1 and 2 as well as 3 and 4 feature 31-degree banking while at the start-finish line, which is painted at the apex of the tri-oval section, the track is banked 18 degrees. This allows for faster speeds and easier turning in the corners.

How long does the Daytona 500 take?

The race is scheduled for 200 laps, though that number grow if late caution flags necessitate overtime. Last year's race, for example, went a total of 212 laps. Barring rain delays, the Daytona 500 tends to last around three-and-a-half hours.

In terms of box office tickets, the 2024 Daytona 500 has been sold out since November. Yet, tickets can still be had through second-market distributors.
