Women's FA Cup final LIVE! Manchester United vs Tottenham result, match stream and latest updates today

Women's FA Cup final LIVE!

Manchester United lifted the Women's FA Cup for the first time in their history following a comfortable 4-0 victory over Tottenham at Wembley. Ella Toone, who started when United were narrowly beaten by Chelsea in the final a year ago, broke the deadlock with a fine finish in first-half stoppage time.

Rachel Williams, appearing in her fourth FA Cup final, nodded home nine minutes after the restart before an error by Spurs keeper Becky Spencer gifted Lucia Garcia her first goal three minutes later. Captain Bethany England came closest for Tottenham in their maiden FA Cup final with a crossbar-clipping header before Garcia bagged her brace and put the comeback firmly out of reach.

It is the first time since Birmingham's victory in 2012 - where Williams netted a crucial stoppage-time equaliser for the winners - that the cup hasn't been won by one of Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester City.

Painful afternoon for Spurs.

Man United 4-0 Tottenham

16:26 , Matt Verri

90+3 mins: Earps hasn’t made a single save this afternoon. Nice afternoon in the sun.

Three minutes until the party can well and truly begin for those in red.

Man United 4-0 Tottenham

16:23 , Matt Verri

90 mins: Garcia named player of the match. Big hug from Toone, who must have thought she was on track for it after that stunning opener.

Six minutes added on. Just what Spurs wanted.

Man United 4-0 Tottenham

16:20 , Matt Verri

87 mins: Well, Spencer isn’t lacking in confidence.

Gifted United a goal earlier but she’s holding her nerve, just about poking the ball away as she’s closed down again.

Man United 4-0 Tottenham

16:18 , Matt Verri

84 mins: United keeping the ball well, all very easy for them right now.

That Toone goal right before half-time hurt Spurs a lot- they were right in the game before that.

Man United 4-0 Tottenham

16:14 , Matt Verri

81 mins: Some very hopeful appeals for a Spurs penalty, as England does down at the back post.

Even she didn’t believe that.

Dom Smith at Wembley

16:11 , Matt Verri

Huge cheers for Toone and Garcia as they make way. Deservedly so. Both have been excellent.

Man United 4-0 Tottenham

16:11 , Matt Verri

77 mins: Spurs look ragged at the back now. Would be no surprise if there are more goals in this.

Garcia brought off for United, and she’s going to milk every second of her lap around the pitch. Toone off too, with the job done.

GOAL! Man United 4-0 Tottenham | Lucía Garcia 74'

16:08 , Matt Verri

That’ll do it!

Two for Garcia, four for United and it’s turning into a rout.

Ball drops for her in the box, and it’s a really good finish as she stretches forward.

Man United 3-0 Tottenham

16:06 , Matt Verri

73 mins: Nearly 4-0... should be 4-0.

Ball straight through the Spurs defence and Malard is clean through for United.

Not a great effort in the end, near enough straight at Spencer. Spurs goalkeeper keeps it out.

Man United 3-0 Tottenham

16:05 , Matt Verri

71 mins: Final drinks break is done, players ready to get up and running for the final 20 minutes.

Spurs need the kitchen sink and anything else they can find.

Man United 3-0 Tottenham

16:01 , Matt Verri

68 mins: Grant, Graham, Ayane are all on for Spurs, it’s a triple change. Nilden, Spence and Thomas make way.

Going to have to be a very special 20 minutes...

Man United 3-0 Tottenham

15:59 , Matt Verri

66 mins: Off the bar!

That could have changed things. Spurs attack down the left, ball clipped into the middle and England powers a header against the woodwork.

Man United 3-0 Tottenham

15:59 , Matt Verri

65 mins: Match almost at walking pace, plenty of tired legs out there in this heat. Will be feeling much worse for Spurs.

Parris is on for United, replacing Williams up front.

Man United 3-0 Tottenham

15:56 , Matt Verri

62 mins: It’s one-way traffic, United are threatening to make this really ugly for Spurs.

Toone finds space in the box, onto her right foot... curls an effort straight at Spencer.

Man United 3-0 Tottenham

15:53 , Matt Verri

60 mins: United passing the ball around at will now. Spurs shell-shocked and this could get worse for them.

Got to imagine those United fans can now enjoy a party in the sun for the rest of the match.

Dom Smith at Wembley

15:52 , Matt Verri

In that moment by Spencer, Tottenham surely lost the FA Cup final. Horrible pass out from the goalkeeper, straight to Garcia who makes no mistake.

United cruising to victory now. Tough day at the office for Spurs.

GOAL! Man United 3-0 Tottenham | Lucía Garcia 57'

15:51 , Matt Verri

GAME OVER.

A complete disaster for Spurs.

Spencer in goal, tries to roll the ball to Buhler and it’s instead to Garcia. United forward can’t miss.

Dom Smith at Wembley

15:50 , Matt Verri

Williams has been threatening to score with her head throughout this sunny afternoon, and she finally does so.

A killer for Tottenham who had literally just made a double change. Zelem onto the head of Williams. A small mountain to climb for Spurs now.

GOAL! Man United 2-0 Tottenham | Rachel Williams 54'

15:48 , Matt Verri

IT’S TWO!

And that really has been coming.

Set-piece, ball pinged to the back post by Zelem and Williams rises highest to power a header home.

Man United 1-0 Tottenham

15:47 , Matt Verri

54 mins: Double Tottenham changes

Vinberg and Naz off, Wang and Bizet on to try and turn this around.

Man United 1-0 Tottenham

15:45 , Matt Verri

52 mins: Naz less than impressed, as she goes down in the corner and doesn’t get a free-kick.

Did very much look like Le Tissier just shoved her in the back. And it still looks like that on the replays.

Man United 1-0 Tottenham

15:43 , Matt Verri

50 mins: United make their first change of the afternoon.

Galton, almost in tears is off, to be replaced by Malard. Must be an injury issue.

Man United 1-0 Tottenham

15:41 , Matt Verri

48 mins: Spurs fans making plenty of noise, trying to rally their side.

Been a low-key start to the half, which will suit United just fine. Spurs have to throw everything at this at some point.

Back underway!

15:38 , Matt Verri

Second-half is up and running.

15:34 , Matt Verri

Spurs need a big response in the second-half.

Created very little, and increasingly struggled to keep hold of the ball as that half went on.

It’s only one goal, but does feel like a big ask for them.

Some finish!

15:26 , Matt Verri

Can always rely on Ella Toone at Wembley...

HT: Man United 1-0 Tottenham

15:22 , Matt Verri

And that’s half-time.

Toone’s brilliant effort the difference at the break.

The first real bit of quality and United lead as a result.

Dom Smith at Wembley

15:21 , Matt Verri

Ella Toone has just lit up Wembley with a fantastic strike into the top corner.

Less than a minute of stoppage-time remaining, she looks up and thumps into the back of the net.

Lovely flowing United attack. She runs half the length of the pitch, evades Summanen’s dive and hammers into postage-stamp territory.

GOAL! Man United 1-0 Tottenham | Ella Toone 45+3'

15:20 , Matt Verri

STUNNING!

Toone with a sensational strike from distance to break the deadlock before half-time.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

15:18 , Matt Verri

45 mins: Le Tissier is about 35 yards out when she decides to try her luck.

Bold. And not very good. Ball flies 35 yards over the bar.

Three minutes added on.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

15:16 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Spurs’ only threat has come through Vinberg on the left.

She has a bit of space again on that wing, but it’s not a great ball into the middle after she chops inside.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

15:14 , Matt Verri

41 mins: It’s still United very much on top.

Toone drives towards the Spurs area, looks like she’s going to get a shot away but changes her mind at the last minute. Closed down, loses it.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

15:11 , Matt Verri

38 mins: Neither side keeping the ball particularly well, fair few loose passes.

United win it back, Blundell goes for goal from distance and it’s charged down. Falls for Toone in the box, fires wide on the swivel.

Dom Smith at Wembley

15:08 , Matt Verri

Tottenham players just being slightly crowded out when they get the ball and hope to break.

Jessica Naz showed trickery to evade a few challenge just a moment ago, but there were ultimately three United players swarming towards here.

Inevitably, she lost it.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

15:08 , Matt Verri

35 mins: Ange Postecoglou has made it clear he has very little interest in devoting attention to his Spurs side defending set-pieces.

Starting to feel like it’s a similar story for the women’s team - so vulnerable.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

15:06 , Matt Verri

34 mins: This feels like the best chance of the deadlock being broken. Corner United.

Off the line! Turner gets on the end of Zelem’s ball in, header is just about scrambled away by Thomas.

United have gone close from every single corner.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

15:04 , Matt Verri

32 mins: Le Tissier left in a heap on the floor, clattered into from behind by Spence.

Scrappy period in the match. Not a lot of pace in it, understandable considering the heat.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

15:01 , Matt Verri

28 mins: Galton with space on the left, tries to poke a ball through to Williams but Turner reads it.

Still just the one shot on target in the match, that early smothered effort from Galton.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:58 , Matt Verri

25 mins: United again go close, straight after the restart.

Ball clipped into the middle, Williams nods it down superbly and Toone, on the stretch, can only send an effort over the bar.

Dom Smith at Wembley

14:56 , Matt Verri

The players head for their one and only permitted drinks break in the first half.

It’s very hot here…

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:55 , Matt Verri

23 mins: Time for the first water break - we’ll have one in each half.

Temperature is 28 degrees pitchside. Skinner, not a care in the world, still wearing his wooly polo neck.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:52 , Matt Verri

19 mins: Toone wide to Williams, who wins another corner for United. Spurs have already had two warnings from these.

JUST OVER!

Turner wins it at the back post, nodded back into the six-yard box. Garcia looks certain to turn it in, but Summanen appears from nowhere to brilliantly clear.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:50 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Turner takes far too long on the ball at the back for Spurs.

Williams comes charging in to close her down, is very nearly clean through on goal after blocking the pass forward.

Neville quickly across on the cover.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:47 , Matt Verri

15 mins: More like it from Spurs, Neville getting forward on the right for the first time.

Cross whipped to the back post, Vinberg is free but she can’t quite get up enough. Header loops well over.

Dom Smith at Wembley

14:46 , Matt Verri

Williams again, just nodding wide. So close again. Katie Zelem’s set pieces are sumptuous, and that delivery deserved to be put away.

United have made the more dangerous start to this final.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:46 , Matt Verri

13 mins: United win a corner, after good pressing from Garcia.

Spurs might want to try marking Williams from this one.

Well she wins the header again, despite having three players around her. Nods just wide.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:43 , Matt Verri

10 mins: Chance for Vinberg to break down the left, as United appeals for a foul are waved away.

Cross whipped in, Thomas makes the run to the near post but Le Tissier does well to head it behind for a... goal-kick.

Corner not given, for some reason.

Dom Smith at Wembley

14:40 , Matt Verri

After early chances for Vinberg, Galton and Williams, a chance now for Spurs to assert some authority now and find some rhythm.

Quite a frantic start.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:40 , Matt Verri

7 mins: United pressing really well early on, trying to stop Spurs play their way out from the back.

Naz tries to do the same to the United defence, bit too keen though and the whistle goes.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:37 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Huge chance!

United should be in front. From the resulting corner, the ball is perfectly pinged to the back post.

Williams free, but she heads over the bar.

Dom Smith at Wembley

14:35 , Matt Verri

Decisive goalkeeping from Spencer, who was out well to smother there.

She’s given some treatment but is able to continue.

A decent chance for both sides already.

Man United 0-0 Tottenham

14:35 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Sharp start from Tottenham, straight on the front foot.

Vinberg has space to get a shot away on the edge of the area, well over the bar.

At the other end, Toone plays Galton in... Spencer flies off her line to smother.

KICK-OFF!

14:32 , Matt Verri

We’re up and running!

14:30 , Matt Verri

Another classic rendition of the anthem. Singer, players, music and crowd all finished at four different times.

That’s done - kick-off finally here.

14:25 , Matt Verri

Marc Skinner wearing what appears to be a wooly polo neck - it’s 28 degrees. He has lost his mind.

Players have strolled onto the pitch at a packed Wembley. Time for the pre-match fun.

Here we go...

14:24 , Matt Verri

Music is blaring out at Wembley - pundits basically shouting their way through the final analysis.

We’ll assume the atmosphere is a good one, drowned out though by the music. Bit unnecessary.

Players will be out any minute.

Dom Smith at Wembley

14:17 , Matt Verri

Wembley filling up nicely here. Total sell-out for this match.

For the first time since 2012, an FA Cup winner who isn’t Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester City will be crowned.

Not long now!

14:11 , Matt Verri

Kick-off just under 20 minutes away.

Players warming up - not particularly difficult on a day like this. Expected to be a drinks break midway through each half this afternoon.

England warns of Wembley pressure

14:03 , Matt Verri

Beth England has warned Tottenham not to read too much into their recent draw with Manchester United, insisting this afternoon’s clash is a “completely different ball game.”

“We have to be very sensible in our approach to this game,” the Spurs forward said.

“We have recently just played Manchester United and everyone can probably get a bit too high with the highs and low with the lows and this is going to be a completely different ball game at a sold-out Wembley.

“The pressures of it, the people that have never played on that pitch before, it's a different type of game to playing at Leigh Sports Village.”

The ‘big three’ have already fallen - who will take advantage and lift the trophy?

First goal crucial

13:48 , Matt Verri

This is not a fixture where you want to be trying to come from behind in, it would appear.

Team that has scored the first goal in the Women’s FA Cup final has gone on to win in 23 of the last 25 matches.

Best get off to a fast start!

Both sides make changes

13:42 , Matt Verri

Two changes for Man United to the side that lost to Liverpool a week ago.

Rachel Williams replaces Nikita Parris in the starting lineup, while Jayde Riviere is fit again and starts at right-back.

As for Spurs, Grace Clinton is ineligible to face her parent club and it means Martha Thomas gets the chance to impress at Wembley.

The other chance comes in defence, with Amy James-Turner preferred to Molly Bartrip.

Vilahamn speaks of Wembley excitement

13:08 , Matt Verri

Tottenham boss Robert Vilahamn has insisted he will be look back on today’s final with huge pride, regardless of the result.

"I remember as a kid, that stadium was the biggest one I knew and so it was my dream to get there one day,” the 41-year-old said.

"I’ve been working pretty much for 30 years to get to this stadium, so it’s more like enjoying the ride. The feelings I get with that is of course a mixture of stress and happiness.

"But I’m more looking forward to the game and hopefully we will win. If we lose I will be very upset but I know a few weeks after that I will still be very proud of what we have done, so it’s a good feeling."

Atmosphere is building...

12:56 , Matt Verri

It’s starting to fill up outside Wembley, with just over an hour and a half to go until kick-off.

Glorious afternoon.

Skinner: Final defeat can give us extra drive

12:47 , Matt Verri

Marc Skinner has urged his side to use last season’s final defeat as added motivation this afternoon.

Man United were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at Wembley in the showpiece event 12 months ago, and now look to go one better.

"It has to, it has to feed into it," Skinner said. "When the hurt hits, you feel it and you can recall it, it can be an extra drive and motivating factor.

"That’s how you have to use it. You have to bring back those feelings and give more. Nobody is guaranteed to win this final but we have to give everything to make sure the performance is worthy of it.

"You would be a fool to go in and feel super confident that you will walk this final. Tottenham are a very, very good team. On their day, they can beat anyone in this league.”

Spurs bid to one-club ethos

12:39 , Matt Verri

Last summer, when Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was deciding what type of manager was needed to take the men’s club forward, a similar conversation was taking place between the powerbrokers of the women’s team, who were also searching for a new boss.

Andy Rogers, managing director of Spurs Women, sat down with the club’s academy director Simon Davies to work out how they could align the teams.

“We wanted to understand, ‘How do we want to play?’, with a one-club mentality at the top of everything,” said Rogers. “So, ‘What’s the vision for the men’s team?’ and we should try to align the women’s team similarly.”

Vilahamn was a risky choice to lead the new project, having spent just three seasons as a top-level coach in his native Sweden and a year in the women’s game.

But the 41-year-old has quickly turned Spurs into a slick, modern team, with Martha Thomas’s outstanding winner in the 1-0 win over Arsenal in December the best example of their brave football.

Last time they met...

12:31 , Matt Verri

Tottenham have never beaten Man United, but they came very close to doing so just a few weeks ago.

They held a 2-1 lead away from home heading into stoppage-time, but Maya Le Tissier bundled home a stoppage-time equaliser to earn a point.

Spurs will have taken plenty of confidence from that match though...

Tottenham's route to Wembley

12:22 , Matt Verri

Spurs’ FA Cup campaign very nearly ended in January, against Sheffield United in the fourth round.

They were 2-1 down with ten minutes to go, but equalised and then snatched a winner in the 96th-minute to progress.

Tottenham then edged past Charlton, before beating Man City on penalties in the quarter-finals.

Again they came from behind in the last-four, scoring late to send it to extra-time and then seeing off Leicester with a 2-1 victory after a 118th-minute winner from Martha Thomas.

Man United's route to Wembley

12:15 , Matt Verri

Two comfortable wins over Newcastle and Southampton saw United through to the quarter-finals, where they cruised to a 4-0 victory over Brighton.

That set up a semi-final clash with Chelsea, one that United won 2-1 to book their place at Wembley.

Now just one win away from their first piece of major silverware.

First-time winner!

12:08 , Matt Verri

There will be a new name on the FA Cup trophy this afternoon.

Neither of these sides have ever won the competition - we can be fairly confident that won’t be the case by the end of the day.

Standard Sport prediction

12:01 , Matt Verri

Spurs come into this final on a seven-match unbeaten run and can take confidence from their trip to face United a couple of weeks ago, when they were denied victory only by a 92nd-minute equaliser from Maya Le Tissier.

United have had a fairly frustrating season, unable to kick on from last term’s impressive WSL showing, but they have a chance to end it on a hugely positive note.

It promises to be a tight final, but United’s experience of playing in this match could 12 months ago could give them the edge.

Man United to win, 2-1.

Tottenham team news

11:54 , Matt Verri

Grace Clinton is ineligible for Tottenham against her parent club, but Celin Bizet is available again after made her return from an ankle injury last time out against Everton. She played 12 minutes off the bench, and will be pushing to be involved from the start at Wembley.

Martha Thomas and Drew Spence are fit again too, while Spurs hope to have Amy James-Turner back after she missed the trip to Everton with a “small issue”.

Man United team news

11:47 , Matt Verri

Jayde Riviere provided an injury boost for Manchester United last weekend, featuring for the final 30 minutes on her return to the squad.

Gabby George and Emma Watson are long-term absentees, but there are not believed to be any fresh injury concerns.
