Circus performer spins world's largest hula hoop in incredible video: 'First woman to break this record'

A woman set the Guinness World Record for the largest hula hoop spun by a female.

Getti Kehayova is a circus performer, hula hoop instructor and technician at Cirque du Soleil. She comes from a family of record breakers. Her father set the Guinness World Record for the seven-man high perch pyramid act, and her sister once held the record for the most hula hoops spun.

Kehayova shared a video of herself in action spinning the massive 17-foot hoop on TikTok.

“I grew up in the circus with my sister and our parents, traveling all over the world performing as acrobats,” Kehayova told Guinness World Records. “And then my sister and I had my very own hula hoop act, so she is the one that basically got me started.”

She discovered the world record when it was previously held by Japanese hula hooper Yuya Yamada. Despite doing stunts for years in the circus, Kehayova found the massive hula hoop to be one of the most challenging.

“It was quite painful because the hula hoop is pretty heavy, so every time that revolution and spin comes around and it touches every part of your body, it kind of feels like a punch up against your body,” Kehayova told Guinness World Records.

She wore a protective vest to prevent injury from the heavy hoop. In order to qualify for the world record, the hula hoop had to spin at least three times. Kehayova practiced every day before and after work, and it paid off.

The star hula hooper was added to the 2020 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. And the rest is hula history.
