10-man Wolves hold on for battling point against Aston Villa

Wolves and Aston Villa shared the spoils after an intense West Midlands derby came to life in the second half.

Hwang Hee-chan continued his incredible start to the season as he finished to make it 1-0 but moments later Pau Torres equalized for Villa.

Both teams had chances to win it, with Ollie Watkins hitting the post in the 102nd minute, but a draw was a fair result as a combative encounter ended even. Mario Lemina was shown a second yellow card in the 94th minute but Wolves somehow held on during the 12 minutes of second half stoppage time to grab a point.

Wolves now have eight points for the season and are three games unbeaten, while Villa have 16 points and are four games without defeat as they sit just outside the top four.

Villa leave late show too late this time

Yes, they have to juggle Europe and Premier League action this season but Villa are leaving themselves a little too much to do. John McGinn scored a 94th minute winner on Thursday at Villa Park in the UEFA Europa Conference League and they almost scored a winner twice in the 101st and 102nd minute at Wolves. Villa were sluggish to start the game, perhaps a hangover from their Thursday exertions, and Wolves overpowered them out wide and in midfield until Villa woke up in the second half. Unai Emery's side are pretty unstoppable when they're in full flow and for the final 15 minutes they dominated the game but couldn't find a winner. Villa are very good because of Unai Emery's tactics but there's also a sense that if he throws caution to the wind a little more often, they could be even better. That is Villa's next challenge as they aim to break into the top four.

What’s next?

Wolves head to Bournemouth on Saturday, Oct. 21, while Aston Villa host West Ham on Sunday, Oct. 22.

Big chance misses by Wolves

A cross from the left finds Pedro Neto at the back post but he gets his finish all wrong and skies it over the bar. Emiliano Martinez did just enough to put him off.

GOALLL! Wolves 1-1 Aston Villa - Torres

Pau Torres tucks home at the back post as a free kick is half cleared and then the second cross finds him. What a finish and this game has come to life in the second half.

GOALLL! Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa - Hwang

Wolves take the lead as Pedro Neto crosses and Hwang Hee-chan finishes the in-form duo combine.

So close for Villa!

Ollie Watkins goes so close as he flicks a shot towards goal but Jose Sa tips it over. Great stop.

Half time: Wolves 0-0 Aston Villa

I think we can officially call this game a slow-burner. Neither team has control and chances have been very limited.

Chance for Wolves

A big opportunity for Wolves as a cross in from the left is flicked just wide by Rayan Ait-Nouri. The hosts are pinning Villa back.

Even start at Molineux

Not much in the way of chances but there is plenty going on in the penalty boxes as players are going down all over the place looking for penalty kicks. The referee is doing his best to keep control of this.
