Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Crystal Palace

It finishes 3-1 at Molineux to Crystal Palace, as Wolves struggled to deal with the pressing intensity of the visitors. The game started slowly for both sides but Palace went 2-0 by the 28th minute with two goals in two minutes. The first was an incredible strike from Olise from the edge of the penalty area. The French winger cut inside onto his left foot and bent it around Bentley in the Wolves goal. Before Mateta doubled the lead after great play down the wing by Olise before the ball was played inside to Clyne but the fullback’s effort from the six-yard box struck the post. However, the ball fell to Mateta for the striker to score his 13th Premier League goal this season. After the interval Wolves got their way back into the game in the 66th minute with a bullet strike from inside the penalty area by Cunha after fantastic play by O’Neill’s side with the ball being worked to the striker. The goal was deemed offside originally but VAR stepped in to show Hwang was onside in the build-up. Yet Palace restored their two-goal lead in the 73rd minute as Eze strolled around the goalkeeper after a fantastic through ball by Olise. Palace earned all three points and deservedly so, as the London side had an xG of 2.69 from their 13 attempts compared to the xG of Wolves which was 1.36 from their 13 attempts. Despite Wolves controlling the ball with 62 per cent of possession and having seven shots on target to Palace’s three, Oliver Glasner’s side always looked in control. Palace go into their final game of the season at Selhurst Park in fine form as they climb above Wolves in the Premier League table to 12th, while Wolves slip to 13th with a daunting final day fixture away to Liverpool.

A win over today’s hosts would also move the London club above Wolves in the table, as only three points separates them before kick-off. Palace will be looking to put an end to their poor run of failing to win their last away game in each of the last four seasons with a victory over a club who has failed to win their last home game in the league for the last three seasons.
