Wisconsin volleyball gets commitment from former Montana setter Carly Anderson

MADISON – The Wisconsin volleyball team had a need for another setter next season.

It appears that void has been filled.

Saturday evening, Carly Anderson, a setter who spent the past four seasons at Montana, announced her commitment to the Badgers on Instagram. The 5-foot-9 native of Mississauga, Ontario, has one year of eligibility remaining.

Anderson will provide the Badgers a veteran voice at the position. The team’s other two setters, prep All-American Charlie Fuerbringer from Hermosa Beach, California, and Morgan Van Wie from Waunakee High School in Wisconsin, will be freshmen next season.

Anderson comes to UW after a standout career for Montana.

She was a second-team all-Big Sky selection the past two seasons.

Last season she ranked third in the conference in assists 9.49 (apg) and fourth in aces (.38 apg). She had a season high of 52 assists in a five-set win over Binghamton on Aug. 31.

She finished her Montana career with 3,671 assists and played in 102 matches.

Montana coach Allison Lawrence praised Anderson's development in a press release announcing the team's all-conference selections in November.

"She poses multiple threats and really her growth this year, she has gained so much in strength and speed where she has always had really solid fundamentals but her ability to be strong and physical throughout rallies has only made her more deceptive and more of an offensive threat," the coach said. "It gives her the ability to make more-and-more aggressive decisions in all parts of her game."
