University of Wisconsin fans have been unable to raise a glass (or in this case a plastic cup) to their beloved Badgers at sporting events.

But that will change somewhat this season.

UW announced Thursday that it will offer beer, wine and pre-packaged alcoholic products such as hard seltzers in seating areas at basketball and hockey games at the Kohl Center and LaBahn Arena beginning in the fall. No alcohol will be available at football games.

Previously, alcohol was only available in suites at basketball and hockey games.

The shift in policy is part of an updated customer service initiative to improve the overall fan experience on UW's campus.

"As we look to enhance the customer experience inside and outside our venues, we have done a lot of listening and observing," Wisconsin athletic director Chris McIntosh said in a press release. "It is critical that our fans have an enjoyable, safe, and efficient experience when they engage with us. I am happy to be able to announce a few new initiatives and I am excited about continuing to develop more ways to better serve our fans."

The university also announced an upgraded video board viewing experience at football games beginning this season and additional customized and premium seating packages.
