Winnacunnet's Oliver Duffy, Exeter, Oyster River girls teams shine in NHIAA track meets

PLYMOUTH — Oliver Duffy is a three-time state champion after a standout performance in the NHIAA Division I high school indoor track and field championships Sunday.

The Winnacunnet High School senior track and field athlete put on a show at Plymouth State University. Duffy placed first and set a state record in the long jump (23 feet 5 inches), high jump (6-2) and was one of the four runners in the first-place 4x200 relay (1 minute 32.58 seconds), along with Owen Janetos, Brady Corcoran and Ryan Jamison.

Duffy's time in the long jump shattered the Division I record set by Londonderry's Tristan Hall (22-5.5) in 2002. He also broke the Winnacunnet school record set by Spencer Shaw (22-4) in 2004.

"He was ready to do a big long jump and he nailed it, so that was great," said Winnacunnet coach Alison Duffy, who is Oliver's mother. "I think he was a little fatigued going into the high jump, and he just wanted to jump to win, and that worked out well. It was a great day for him. He's worked hard all season."

For the Winnacunnet girls' team, Charlotte Koutalidis placed first overall in the 1500 with a time of 4:49.34. With the win, Koutalidis qualified for New Englands.

"She had some stiff competition going in ... but she knew she had her hands full with some of the other girls from the other schools, and she hung in there very comfortably and then made her move. It was a great win for her, I think she was very happy as well with her performance."
