Why LSU could be in for a rough night vs. Alabama
One of my favorite TV shows of all time is NBC’s hit drama “The Blacklist”. The show stars the fascinating James Spader who portrays the ever-elusive criminal mastermind, Raymond Reddington. In the series, Reddington is best known for his ability to turn a phrase. He once said, “Revenge isn’t a passion, it’s a disease that eats at your mind and poisons your soul.“
You are probably wondering what in the world this has to do with Nick Saban and the Alabama football team. Well, let me explain.
During his weekly edition of “Hey Coach”, Saban said “I always thought that revenge should not be a motivator. But it is, I must tell you. When people disrespect somebody in some kind of way — and sometimes it doesn’t have to be that they said anything or did anything, maybe it’s a humiliating loss or whatever that you had.”
Coach Saban admittedly has never allowed revenge to play a motivating factor when preparing for an opponent. He also admitted that this week’s matchup with LSU is a little bit different.
The last time LSU came into Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Tigers defeated the Tide 46-41. If that wasn’t enough, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron was caught saying some not-so-friendly remarks in the visitor’s locker room.
Evidently, that struck a nerve for coach Saban and the Tide players and they haven’t forgotten it. This could prove to be bad news for the LSU Tigers come Saturday night.
Not only is Alabama the better and more talented team, now, they are salivating with the taste of sweet revenge. Things could get ugly in Tuscaloosa.
Let’s hope this revenge doesn’t poison the Tide team.
