Why Jaguars fans should be excited about Devin Lloyd

Heading into the 2022 NFL draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars needed to replace the athleticism and versatility of Myles Jack, as well as the production he left behind. They traded back into the first round after taking Travon Walker at No. 1 overall, and ensured they would get just that in Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd.

Lloyd is an explosive, rangy defender who was the versatile leader on the defensive side of the football for Utah. He excels in pass coverage, with the athletic ability to chase and track with running backs, and enough flexibility to shadow athletic tight ends down the field. He’s intelligent and decisive in the run game, shooting into gaps and bouncing outside to lock down the ball carrier. He should see similar success at the next level, thanks to his clear NFL traits.

This three-down weapon will likely start right away opposite of Foye Oluokun, as they team up to be one of the most explosive tandems of inside linebackers in the NFL. Lloyd will allow that defense to line up in multiple variations, as both backers can cover sideline-to-sideline. He could quickly become the leader of that Jacksonville defense, and prove to be a bargain at No. 27 overall.
