Why the all-boys Iroquois Invitational will be a one-day swimming event this Saturday

The Iroquois Coaches Association Swimming & Diving Invitational has always had an unusual schedule by necessity.

The Braves’ pool lacks a springboard. In recent years, that meant the diving portion for its all-boys meet took place the Friday before at Harbor Creek.

That won’t be the case this year, either for date or locale.

A YMCA youth meet was scheduled this weekend at Harbor Creek’s newly renovated natatorium. Now, Saturday’s diving competition will be held at Penn State Behrend’s Junker Center according to Iroquois meet director Bob North.

That portion of the now one-day competition has a start time of 1 p.m.

“This is expected to be a one-time thing,” North said.

Saturday’s swimming events at Iroquois will bracket the diving action at Behrend. The preliminary session will start at 9 a.m. and the championship races at 5:30 p.m.

Aari Fox will be the overwhelming favorite when diving does begin at Behrend. The Fairview senior, a two-time PIAA Class 2A medalist, seeks his third and final meet title.

Fox also can help the Tigers defend as team champions.
