White Marlin Open day 1 leaderboard: All about big tuna

It was all about tuna on day 1 of the 2023 White Marlin Open, and here's who made the leaderboard in early action this year.

Tuna

In the tuna category, Robert Wagner of Blue Bell, Pa., is on top with a 199-pound tuna caught aboard the Instigator and currently valued at $1 million. In second is Angelo Ponte of Shark River, N.J., who reeled in a 118-pound tuna aboard the BowDown, currently valued at $429,000. In third is Ocean City's Philip Houck, who landed a 64.5-pound tuna aboard Skid Row, currently valued at $38,000.

Wahoo

In the wahoo category, angler Jeff Williams of Fort Myers, Fla., is on top with a 55-pound catch reeled in aboard the Captain Deadley and currently valued at $32,000.

Dolphin

Harley Smegal of St. Augustine, Fla., is on top of the dolphin category with a 21-pound catch reeled in aboard the Hey Buddy and currently valued at $32,000.

Still waiting on marlins

There were no leaders in the white marlin, blue marlin and swordfish categories after day 1.
