Where UNC basketball sits in updated Rothstein top 45

It’s nearly been a month since the UConn Huskies took down San Diego State to claim the national championship and the college basketball offseason has been a busy one. Everything so far has revolved around the transfer portal and NBA decisions, leaving us with a glimpse of the landscape for the 2023-24 season.

After moves over the past month, analyst John Rothstein has updated his top 45 rankings to reflect those moves. For the North Carolina Tar Heels, they are getting some respect as they checked in at No. 28.

Here is what Rothstein wrote on the Tar Heels:

Projected Starting 5:
R.J. Davis
Cormac Ryan
F Harrison Ingram
Jae’Lyn Withers
Armando Bacot
Projected Bench: Seth Trimble, Jalen Washington, Zayden High, Paxson Wojcik, D’Marco Dunn, Simeon Wilcher
Key Newcomers: Simeon Wilcher, Zayden High, Paxson Wojcik (Brown), Jae’Lyn Withers (Louisville), Cormac Ryan (Notre Dame), Harrison Ingram (Stanford)
Key Losses: Pete Nance, Leaky Black, Dontrez Styles, Puff Johnson, Tyler Nickel, Justin McCoy, Caleb Love

North Carolina’s lineup has improved with the additions of Harrison Ingram, Cormac Ryan and Jae’Lyn Withers. They may not be done yet either as there’s the chance they could add more through the portal or even a reclassification.

Obviously, things will change between now and the start of the season as well.
