Where Southern Miss baseball stands in latest 2024 NCAA Tournament bracket projections
HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss baseball couldn't have picked a much better time of the season to go on a win streak.
The Golden Eagles (35-17, 18-9 Sun Belt Conference) have won eight games in a row after beating Ole Miss on Tuesday. Their RPI is up to 29, they've received votes in the latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll for the first time since April 8 and still have a chance — albeit an outside one — to end up with a share of the Sun Belt regular season championship.
Southern Miss hosts Texas State (26-27, 12-15) for a three-game series beginning Thursday (6 p.m., ESPN+) and then will head to Montgomery, Alabama, for the Sun Belt Tournament.

Baseball America's NCAA Tournament projection for Southern Miss
Baseball America projects Southern Miss to be in the Athens Regional with Georgia as the host. It has Southern Miss as the No. 2 seed, Georgia Tech the No. 3 seed and Bryant as the No. 4 seed.
The Golden Eagles have never played Georgia or Bryant but have played Georgia Tech four times. All of them came in the NCAA regionals, including Southern Miss beating Georgia Tech twice in three games in 2009 on its path to the College World Series.

D1Baseball's NCAA Tournament projection for Southern Miss
D1Baseball also has Southern Miss as a No. 2 seed but playing in the Fayetteville Regional with Arkansas as the top seed and the No. 3 national seed. Kansas State is the regional's No. 3 seed and New Mexico is the No. 4 seed.
The Golden Eagles played in the Fayetteville Regional in 2018. They won their first game but then loss consecutive games to Arkansas and Dallas Baptist.
