The No. 1 seed Purdue Boilermakers play No. 11 North Carolina State Wolfpack in their Final Four game on Saturday. The two schools will square off at 6:09 p.m. ET at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, with a berth in Monday's NCAA tournament championship game on the line.

How did Purdue become the Boilermakers?

Purdue's Boilermakers nickname dates back more than 130 years.

After being accused of recruiting athletes from boiler shops, the school adopted the Boilermakers moniker for its athletic teams in 1891, according to Purdue's website. The school purchased an 85,000-pound locomotive engine to drive the point home.

What is Purdue University's mascot?

Purdue's mascot is Purdue Pete, a boilermaker, who joined the team in 1956 with a hammer in hand.
