Where is Penn State ranked in ESPN’s 2023 SP+ rankings?

With college football in the rearview mirror, it’s never too early to start looking ahead to the 2023 campaign.

ESPN’s Bill Connelly put out his early SP+ rankings for the upcoming season.

The SP+ is a predictive formula that weights the three primary factors of returning production, recent recruiting and recent history.

Here is a note Connelly added to keep in mind about the rankings.

A reminder on SP+: It’s a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency. It is a predictive measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football, not a résumé ranking, and, along those same lines, these projections aren’t intended to be a guess at what the AP Top 25 will look like at the end of the year. These are simply early offseason power rankings based on the information we have been able to gather to date.

There are now 133 Division 1 football teams. The SP+ ranks all of them and can be viewed here.

Here are the teams that are ranked in the Top 25.
