Where Mississippi State women’s basketball is in updated NCAA tournament bracket predictions

Mississippi State women’s basketball is the talk of the sport after upsetting LSU, the defending national champions, on Monday.

It marked the biggest win of coach Sam Purcell’s tenure, which started when he was hired in March 2022. The victory also boosted MSU’s NCAA Tournament hopes.

The Bulldogs moved off the bubble in ESPN’s latest projections, which were released Tuesday morning. That’s a welcome sign for Purcell after having to participate in a play-in game last season.

Here’s a look at Mississippi State’s résumé and where the Bulldogs sit in the latest projections.

Where ESPN projects Mississippi State in March Madness

ESPN’s Charlie Creme has Mississippi State as a No. 9 seed in his latest projection. MSU would be matched up with No. 8 seed Michigan State.

The Bulldogs would play the first weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina, where top-seeded NC State would be the host team.

If Mississippi State falls in the range of a No. 8 or No. 9 seed, the other projected No. 1 seeds are Iowa, South Carolina and Stanford.
