Where LSU women's basketball stands in latest NCAA Tournament projections

It appears LSU women's basketball has turned the corner.

Kim Mulkey's bunch went through a small rough patch where it lost a head-scratcher at Auburn. The Tigers (21-4, 8-3 SEC) then couldn't shake off a close home loss to No. 1 South Carolina, a game it led the majority of the way, and followed that up with an upset loss at Mississippi State.

Since the back-to-back defeats, LSU has looked more steady, routing Florida by 40, controlling a spunky Vanderbilt squad before humbling what was a red-hot Alabama team inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Super Bowl Sunday.

The resurgence from Mulkey and the Tigers have NCAA Tournament bracketologists differing on opinions of the team as we inch closer to Selection Sunday.

Here's the latest projections for LSU:

ESPN: 3 seed (Albany 3)

ESPN's Charlie Creme has moved the Tigers back up to the 3-line after having them down as a No. 4 for the past week. For most of this season, the 3-line is where Creme has projected LSU most often. In his latest bracket that came out Tuesday morning, there would be mountains of story lines as he has Mulkey's former team, Baylor coming to Baton Rouge for the first two rounds. LSU would take on No. 14 Marshall to open the tourney then would possibly meet the Bears in round two if they get by No. 11 Middle Tennessee.

Now, Megan Gauer's bracket for HerHoopStats came out prior to LSU's win over Alabama so it's possible that it could be projected higher after a Louisville loss to Syracuse and its 11 spots behind LSU in NET rankings. But as it stands, Gauer has LSU on the 4-line in the Portland 2 region. The Tigers would play No. 13 Stony Brook first and then would meet the winner of No. 5 Virginia Tech and No. 12 Richmond. LSU would matchup with No. 1 Stanford in Portland in the Sweet Sixteen.
