Where Iowa State women’s March Madness resume stands for 2024 NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday

AMES - Following the Iowa State women's basketball team's postseason possibilities this season has been a wild ride.

ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme originally didn't have the Cyclones a part of his postseason projections. But as Iowa State's surprising season got underway, Creme slowly started moving the team across the board from among the last four out, to the last four in, to now firmly in the NCAA Tournament field.

That's where things now stand for the Cyclones, who are likely to earn an at-large bid during Selection Sunday, which starts at 7 p.m.

The Cyclones, boasting tons of young talent, weren't expected to do much this season. This was originally looked at as a rebuilding season after five players from last season's team transferred and stars Ashley Joens and Stephanie Soares were selected in the WNBA Draft.

But the Cyclones quickly became a part of the NCAA Tournament picture with a successful start to the Big 12 Conference season that saw them win their first six games. Iowa State's impressive resume includes six wins over teams in the Associated Press top 25. The Cyclones also took down two teams ranked in the top 10 of the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll.

Iowa State survived a scare with Baylor in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament and took down top-seed Oklahoma in the semifinals before falling to Texas in the championship game. That success has made the Cyclones almost certainly a lock for the NCAA Tournament. But there are still plenty of questions surrounding Iowa State's postseason hopes.

What will its seed be and where will the Cyclones play?

Creme has consistently had the Cyclones playing in Los Angeles lately and most recently as a 7-seed. The Athletic, in its projections, also has Iowa State pegged for Hollywood.
