Where does 247Sports rank Drew Allar among Big Ten quarterbacks?

Drew Allar has high expectations heading into the 2023 season but 247Sports may have upped the ante in their latest rankings. They ranked all 14 Big Ten starting quarterbacks and Penn State’s Drew Allar was pretty high for having only played in a handful of games sparingly.

The former five-star quarterback came in ranked third behind Taulia Tagovailoa of Maryland and J.J. McCarthy of Michigan.

They mentioned of Allar that he “is set for a breakout campaign as a sophomore this fall. He’s a former five-star and the generational-type talent the Nittany Lions have needed to potentially get over the hump in the Big Ten against the likes of Michigan and Ohio State within their own division.”

That point of getting over teams such as Ohio State and Michigan has been the key to Franklin and his Nittany Lions reaching further than a Rose Bowl. The ultimate prize is the College Football Playoff which is a mountain top no Big Ten team has reached since the first year of its creation with Penn State having never made an appearance.

The issue the Nittany Lions have faced that has held them back most is the lack of playmaking ability at the quarterback position. No disrespect to Sean Clifford but the true dual-threat ability that Allar brings to the team is something they have never had in the program’s history.

Now they need that rare talent to translate into wins and evidently, 247Sports sees that as a reality.
