Boys' golf

WESTERN INDIANA CONFERENCE MEET: Cloverdale (337) won its first ever WIC title slipping past Greencastle (338) and Edgewood (342) at Cascades. Owen Valley was ninth at 393. The Mustangs and Clovers each had three earn all-conference (top 12) while the Tiger Cubs had four. Edgewood was led by Luke Garrett, fourth at 80 while Joe West had one of his best 18-hoe matches of the season with an 83 to tie for sixth. Carter Cheaney tied for 11th at 87. Calvin McDonald and Mitch Deckard each had 92s. Cloverdale's Zach Thomas was medalist with a 76. Kolton Jackson led OV with a 79, good for third and All-WIC honors for a second year in a row.

BROWNSBURG INVITATIONAL: Bloomington South shot a 318 for eighth and Bloomington North a 338 for ninth. Hamilton Southeastern won with a 295 at the Trophy Club, while Zionsville was second (298) and Evansville North was third (302).

SWIAC TOURNAMENT: Eastern Greene fired a 372 to place third at Phil Harris. Shakamak won with a 357 while Bloomfield took second with a 371. Korbin Ikerd had an 87 to lead the T-Birds and earn honorable mention all-conference. Logan Russell had a 92, Nate Myers had a 96, Roman Valentine a 97 and Jackson Brewer a 99. Will Miller of Shakamak earned medalist honors with an 80.

Baseball

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 11-10, LAWRENCE NORTH 6-0: Panthers (17-7) pull off the sweep behind a pair of freshman starters making their varsity debuts.

Game 1 — Tyler Morris got the call for the opener, giving up six runs in 3 2/3 with seven strikeouts and five walks. But that was good enough to get the W as the Panthers scored in each of the first five innings. Lucas Waldon was 3-for-3 with four runs scored, Connor Osborne went 4-for-4 with two RBI and Brayden Blevins was 2-for-4 with two RBI. It was tied at 6 when South scored two in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth to pull away.

Game 2 — Not nearly the struggle the opener was as Caleb Oliver fired a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk. South backed him with two five-run outbursts. Connor Osborne continued to rake, going 2-for-2 with three RBI to cap a 6-for-6, five-RBI day. Luke Thompson also had two RBI.

Softball

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 10, BLOOMFIELD 0 (5 inn.): Kendyl Feutz tossed a no-hitter with 8 strikeouts and also went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI for Cougars (5-15). Nat Burns was 3-for-3 with a homer, double and three RBI. Molly Klein and Kaydence Silvers each had two hits.

EDGEWOOD 8, SHAKAMAK 2: The Mustangs (9-9) got another strong outing from winning pitcher Jake Boggs (6IP, 4H, 1R, 0ER, 7K, 2BB) and had plenty of offense to back him up. Mack Headdy was 2-for-4, with two RBIs, Ziggy Teran was 2-for-2 and Brayden Ault drove in two.

MARTINSVILLE 8, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 4: The Panthers (15-7) fell behind 7-1 and couldn't recover. Three pitchers walked six and gave up eight hits. Brayden Blevins was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Jake Arnett scored twice.

EASTERN GREENE 17, SHOALS 0: Eastern Greene picked up win No. 11, it's most since 2014 as Jacob bellman struck out 15 and allowed one hit. Will Inman was 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs and Peyton Lewis slugged his eighth homer of the season.

EDGEWOOD 8, CLAY CITY 3: Mustangs (19-6) won their 10th straight as Ally Bland gets the win and goes 2-for-3. Meleah Vest blasted a homer and drove in two while Piper Stephens was 3-for-4, scored three times and had an RBI and Ella Sproul and Jaylen Robinson each tripled.

Boys' golf

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 303, COLUMBUS NORTH 303: Hogan Conder and Petre Lee each had 80s to lift the Cougars to the win at Timbergate, host for Monday's CI Tournament, on a fifth-score tiebreaker. The Bull Dogs' No. 5 man had an 85. North's low scorers were Simon Deliyannis 73, Jacob Knapp 74 and Grant McCrea 76.

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 308, BEDFORD NORTH LAWRENCE 336: Nick Bellush fired an even par 72 for medalist honors at Bloomington Country Club to lead No. 5 South. Happy Gilmore had a 75, Connor Byon 77, Noah Spicer 84 and Colton Watson 85.

Softball

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 6, NORTH DAVIESS 0: Marin Jacobs and Kinsey Clopton combined on a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts. But it was a nail-biter until the Panthers (12-7) scored five in the sixth. Akasha Burton was 3-for-3 with a doubles and two RBIs and two steals. Sidda Benckart was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Evie Carpenter was 2-for-3 and Keely Hubbard stole two bases.

BROWN COUNTY 10, BLOOMINGTON NORTH 9 (8 inn.): The Eagles (3-12) stunned North in an extra-inning affair, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth to win it. BC tied it with a run in the bottom of the seventh, aided by an error, to send it to extras tied at 7. North looked like it was in good shape in the top of the eighth. Kendyl Feutz opened it with her second homer of the game. Then Molly Klein singled and scooted to third on an error. Nat Burns sent a sacrifice fly to center for a 9-7 lead. But two singles and a wild pitch led to a two-run single for BC in the bottom half to tie it. Then an Intentional walk followed by an error allowed the winning run to score as Feutz took the loss despite giving up just five earned runs.

EDGEWOOD 19, CLOVERDALE 0 (5 inn.): The Mustangs (18-6, 8-1) had no problems in their WIC contest and the Clovers had no hits as Jaylen Robinson struck out five. Eleven Edgewood players got at least one hit. Piper Stephens was 3-for-3 and Alayna Flynn 3-for-5. Madi Bland, Ella Sproul, Madelyn Hitchcox, Jayden Stephens, Meleah Vest all had two RBIs each.

EASTERN GREENE 8, DUGGER UNION 4: Addison Ramey led the charge on the mound and at the plate for the T-Birds (6-13), going 3-for-4 and posting a complete game with only two walks and five strikeouts. Bailee Tieman hit her first homer of the season, a two-run blast in the sixth inning. Mallory Shelton went 2-for-4 with two doubles and .Claria McGee was 2-for-4.

EDGEWOOD 8, CLOVERDALE 0: Brayden Ault tossed a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and one walk in the WIC rout Ashton Long had two RBIs, Andrew Good went 2-for-3 and Mack Headdy stole two bases and scored twice.

Boys' track

WESTERN INDIANA CONFERENCE MEET: Edgewood scored 67 points to place third, getting a win in the 3,200 from Zane Meyer (9:55.72). Owen Valley was fifth with 58 points, getting two wins, Bryce Pardue-Mills in shot put (48-11¾) and Noah Hall in high jump (6-3). Other top Edgewood finishes: Caleb Webb was sixth in the 3,200; Landon Beauchamp and Anthony Gough went 4-8 in the 800; Meyer was third and Jackson Klinger fifth in the 1,600; Mason Law was second in the 110 hurdles (15.81), sixth in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the long jump (19-11½). Logan Anderson was second in discus (125-10) and fourth in shot put (45-2½). Edgewood's 1,600 relay was sixth and the 3,200 relay was fourth (8:34.23). Owen Valley also saw Eli Anderson take fifth in the 100 (11.50) and second in the 300 hurdles (42.70). Tim Harden was sixth in long jump, Eli Hinshaw was fifth in discus and Maddex Weaver was sixth. BLOOMINGTON NORTH 8, EASTERN GREENE 0: Cougars roll to hand head coach Richard Hurt career win No. 500.

Softball

MITCHELL 6, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 4: Bluejackets (12-10) take advance of fast start, scoring all six runs in the first two innings. Jilliyn Gardner and Morgan Cockerill each 2-for-4 for South (11-7) while Kinsey Clopton had a solo homer.

OWEN VALLEY 7, INDIAN CREEK 6 (10 inn.): The Patriots came up clutch in the WIC victory, scoring the tying run in the top of the seventh to extend it. Abby McDonald went the distance for OV and Taylor Monroe slugged two homers and drove in four. OV led 5-1 after three innings.

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 12, TERRE HAUTE NORTH 0 (5 inn.): Big night for Molly Klein, who goes the distance in just 36 pitches and is also 3-for-4. Kaylynn Higgins was 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs and Alyssa Frye drove in three runs.

Boys' track

SWIAC MEET: Eastern Greene picked up seven wins, three from Jade Dawes, two from James Lewis and two relays to take the team title 141-127 over Clay City. Dawes pulled off his usual individual hat trick, taking the 1,600 (4:51.43), 800 (2:02,80) and 3,200 (10:56.98) after anchoring the 3,200 relay to first in 9:06.01. Lewis took care of the 100 (11.43) and 200 (23.15) and was third in long jump and anchored the 1,600 relay to a win in 3:38.09. The 400 relay DQ'd. Jonathan Lyttle was second in the 400, Roman Valentine was second in the 300 hurdles and third in pole vault, Breyten Enlow was second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300s, Maddux Ault was fourth in the 800 and Peyton New was third in discus. Girls' track

SWIAC MEET: Eastern Greene won six events, two by Lilyanna Blais, another by Keylee Hudson and a sweep of the relays, to finish second in the team standings to host Linton-Stockton, 167½-133½. Blais lowered her school record in the 1,600 once again to 5:19.66 and she also won the 800 in 2:33.06. Esther Crane was second in the 3,200 (11:55.07) and third in the 1,600. The 400 relay won in 53.47 while the 1,600 relay went 4:27.55 and the 3,200 group 11:48.57. Zoie Ault was third in both hurdles and fourth in pole vault, while Hudson was fourth in long jump. Mallory Shelton was fourth in the 100, Sydney Richardson was fourth in the 400 and Kena Maddox was third in high jump. Complete results at timingmd.net

Girls' tennis

CENTER GROVE 4, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 1: Maddie Santner rallied 3-6, 6-4, (10-2) after trailing 0-2 in the second set. Trojans, ranked in the top 15, won at 2 and 3 singles against Brooke Liao and Hannah Vandeventer. Caitlin Heim and Riley Walker fell 6-2, 6-1 at 1 doubles and Anna Feddersen and Audrey Wu lost 6-1, 6-2 at 2 doubles. South is 9-9.

Tuesday, May 9

Softball

COLUMBUS NORTH 7, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 1: With a Conference Indiana outright title on the line, South's Kinsey Clopton and CN's Maddi Rutan battled to a 1-1 tie through seven innings before the Bull Dogs broke loose in the eighth for six runs.

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 7, SOUTHPORT 3: The Cougars (3-14, 1-3) snapped their losing skid at 10. Kaylynn Higgins was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Nat Burns was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Molly Klein was 3-for-4 and picked up pitching win. Kaydence Silvers was also 2-for-4.

EDGEWOOD 7, OWEN VALLEY 6: The Mustangs trailed 6-5 before coming up with two runs in the top of the sixth to win it and stay in the WIC hunt. Meleah Vest was 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs for Mustangs. Taylor Monroe was 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs for OV while Taylor York was 3-for-4.

Boys' track

BLOOMINGTON NORTH INVITATIONAL: Eight meet records were taken down, starting with the North 3,200 relay (Dominic D'Onofrio, Reed Pierce, Caelen D'Onofrio and Caleb Winders) winning in 7:56.46. North's JaQualon Roberts went 48.96 to snap the meet record of 49.70 set by South's Daxton Schmidt in 2019. Winders continued his freshman breakout with an incredible 1:53.99 to win the 800 ahead of teammate Kyle Clark (1:56.81). Then the 1,600 relay (Roberts, Shin, Clark, Winders) broke the meet record in with a 3:21.91. The 100 record was lowered to 10.72 by Greenwood's William Riley in the same final where North's Connor Shin dropped his PR to 10.98. Whiteland lowered the 400 relay record to 42.66, with North next at 42.80.

South's D'Andre Black had his first race back after ACL repair, going 14.92 to win the 110 hurdles while Sawyer Bailey was second in pole vault at 14-6. Clark won a sprint to the finish of the 1,600 in 4:19.49 while North's Evan Cheng won long jump (20-11). South's Noah Liell-Beyene won the 300s in 42.99, Ryan Rheam had a strong 9:20.36 to win the 3,200 and Jakob Orth won high jump at 6-2. North's Cody Mikulich won discus (173-5) and Max Wynalda won shot put (54-11½). North won the team title with 148 points to 106 for South. Complete results at bloomingtonnorthathletics.

Girls' track

BLOOMINGTON NORTH INVITATIONAL: More records came crashing down, including seven meet marks, as the Bloomington South girls started the meet with a school and meet record 9:15.58 in the 3,200 relay (Ellie Barada, Jasmine Martolgio, Millie Williams, Lily Myers). In the 400, South's Ellie Barada (57.56) held off North's Nola Somers Glenn (57.71), who broke the Cougar school record. North also took down the meet and school record in the 400 relay (Daisy Rogers, Sarah Elliott, Cora Deemer, Dede Eberle) with a 49.12. Eberle had a 14.87 in the 100 hurdles prelims before winning the final in 15.13, both times faster than the old record of 15.26. South's Lily Meyers' 10:49.16 was a meet record in the 3,200 (11:05.42). And North's Hadley Lucas raised the record in both throws, going 164-3 in discus and a school record 50-11 in the shot put. Greenwood's Amy Luttrell raised her pole vault record to 11-6. In the 100, Elliott lowered her PR to 12.5 for the win while Deemer won the 200 (26.29). The Martoglios and Kate Barada went 1-2-3 in the 1,600. Williams won the 800 (2:25.19) and Violet Hall won high jump (5-2). South pulled off the team title with 134 points to 123 for North. BLOOMINGTON NORTH 4, SOUTHPORT 1: A three-run sixth, including a two-run single by Reese Wagner, broke tie and lead North (17-4, 4-1) to a CI win. Freund pitched last three innings for the win.

CENTER GROVE 11, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 1 (5 inn.): Freshman Kobe Cherry tossed a two hitter with seven strikeouts and five walks for the 4A No. 1 Trojans (18-2). Connor Osborne's double and Keagan Walker's single was it for Panthers (14-6). Both teams will meet in the sectional opener.

Girls' tennis

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 5, EDGEWOOD 0: The Panthers won competitive matches at 1 and 2 singles and No. 2 double to keep the Mustangs at bay. Results — 1S: Maddie Santner d. Macy Vaughn 6-3, 6-1; 2S: Brooke Liao d. Kimmie Franklin 6-1, 7-5; 3S: Hannah Vandeventer d. Ellie Jackson 6-1, 6-1. 1D: Caitlin Heim and Riley Walker d. Kaiden Harrington and Candace Rosemeier 6-0, 6-2; 2D: Anna Feddersen and Audrey Wu d. Wren Millick and Sophia Kapperman 6-3, 6-4.

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 5, GREENWOOD 0: The Cougars (12-1) won every set 6-1 or 6-0.

Monday, May 8

Baseball

EDGEWOOD 12, MITCHELL 3: The Mustangs had a lot of hits and a lot of errors but had no problems taking down 2A No. 4 Mitchell. Edgewood (7-8) struggled for the third straight game on defense with eight errors, giving them 21 during that stretch. But a 14-hit attack, led by four-hit days from Mack Headdy and Brayden Ault, who homered and also drove in four runs, more than made up for the lapses. The Mustangs also draw 7 walks. Carson Druckrey also drove in three runs. Ziggy Teran got the win, striking out seven in five innings.

EASTERN GREENE 10, CLOVERDALE 7: Eastern rallied from a 5-2 deficit after two innings only to trail again 7-6 going into the sixth inning. That's where the T0Birds (10-8) went up for good. Will Inman was 3-for-5 with three RBIs while Gavin Whitfield was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Eastern hit six doubles.
