Who will be this week's Providence Journal Boys Basketball Player of the Week? It's up to you

After the annual holiday break, the high school basketball season is now going strong – provided Mother Nature doesn’t get in the way.

With the season running at full speed, it’s time to bring back a favorite from last year with our Providence Journal Player of the Week voting.

How does a player get nominated to be Player of the Week? It’s pretty simple.

Step 1: Ball out.

Step 2: The home team coach emails or calls in box score results to the Providence Journal.

Step 3: Journal writers pick their five favorite performers from the week.

If coaches do not send results, players will not be nominated so if one of your favorite players had a big game and isn’t in the list below, there’s a better than average chance the results never made it to the Journal before 10 p.m. on the night of the game. Talk to them to ensure it doesn’t happen anymore.

So how does a player become Player of the Week?

That’s where you, the reader, steps in.

Voting for the Journal’s Player of the Week is up to the readers. The award is meant to be an interactive way for members of the state’s basketball community to get involved. There’s no prize for the award, other than bragging rights. If you want to win, we encourage getting social media campaigns going so friends, families, fans, classmates and communities can help one of their own win.

Oh, and one more thing. Since this is the first poll of the year, it’s free. Going forward, you must be a subscriber to vote. So if you haven’t subscribed to the Journal – the state’s leader in high school sports coverage – go do so now.

Below you’ll find this week’s five nominees. Voting will be open from now until Thursday night, with the winner being announced on Friday.

Good luck and happy voting.
