The weekend MetroWest Fantastic Five high school athletes kicked off trophy season

Championship season is here. Some of our MetroWest and Milford-area Fantastic Five high school athletes brought home district trophies. Others stood out against statewide completion.

The lineup contains shutdown defensive stars and all-around contributors.

Without further ado, here's who made the biggest impact over the weekend:

JACK ARTHUR, Hopkinton baseball

He struck out 12 over a complete game and allowed just two hits with one walk in a 1-0 victory against Hopkinton on Saturday. Hopkinton's Derek Hatherly drove in Ryan Lang (single) for the winning run in the fourth inning the winning run. Holliston's Brogan Roche and Albert Savino singled, while Savino struck out five and allowed just five hits and a walk for the Panthers.

MAY CHEN, Hopkinton girls tennis

She helped secure a 3-2 victory over Wachusett on Saturday with a three-set win at No. 1 singles. Chen beat Angie Faiola 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Hillers' No. 2 doubles team of Caitlin Mangan and Charlotte Nadeau also went three sets against Chau Quach and Katrina Szarma, prevailing 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. Hopkinton earned a win at No. 3 singles behind Roma Tewari's 6-1, 6-0 win over Stephanie Goncharenko.

SARAH DUMAS, Franklin girls track and field

She was named the outstanding girls athlete at the MSTCA Twilight Meet on Friday. Dumas won the 400-meter hurdles, setting a meet record and a Panthers school record in 61.88 seconds. She was also first in the 100 hurdles. Lily DeForge won the shot put at 40 feet, 6.5 inches, also a Franklin school record. Liz Hopkins took first in the javelin (129-2), while Darby Nicholson was second in the discus (110-0). Ella Chandaria placed third in the 100 hurdles and sixth in the 400 hurdles.

OLIVIA LaBELLE, Algonquin girls track and field

She won two individual events and led the Titans to the team title at the District E Division 1 championships. LaBelle was first in the 100-meter hurdles (15.35) and 400 hurdles (1:03.45). Algonquin's Tanvi Mehta placed first in the 800 (2:23.5). Savannah Gao of Hudson won the javelin (127-11) and discus (104-9). Westborough's Katelyn Winchester cleared 10 feet to win the pole vault.

MOLLY RAND, Millis softball

She dropped in three hits and had seven RBIs in a 20-4 win over Holbrook in five innings Saturday. Millis' Alicia Ellis hit a grand slam, while Macy Ingraham also homered. Isabella Briones, Lindsey Grattan and Abby Powers collected two hits each for Millis (6-7), while Riley Caulfield struck out thee over two shutout innings, and Mia Vasta punched out four in three innings of relief.

PARKER ROGERS, Marlborough boys track and field

He won the shot put and discus at the District E Division 2 championships Saturday at Shepherd Hill. Rogers cleared 174-3 in the discus and 46-10.6 in the shot put. Algonquin captured the team title with three individual winners. Joseph Lamburn won the mile (4:28.35), Aidan Ruiz was first in the mile (4:28.35) and Donald Dumont placed first in the long jump. Westborough's 4x800 relay finished first (8:41.58).

C.J. SOK, Keefe Tech boys volleyball

He messed around and got a triple-double Friday in a 3-1 win over Framingham. Sok put down 16 kills with 12 digs and 10 blocks in the 26-24, 12-25, 25-18 and 25-19 victory. Bryan Costa had 16 digs and nine kills for the Broncos (14-1), while Logan Greenlaw added seven kills and two blocks.

BLACKSTONE VALLEY TECH 2, Millbury 0: DJ Garabedian struck out eight and walked just one in a shutout for the Beavers (12-3) on Friday. BVT's Luke Charron launched an RBI double, while Jack Marino doubled and scored a run. Max Pilkington and Cam Roy connected on two hits each.

'The perfect storm': Blackstone Valley Tech's hitters feed off each other's momentum

WAREHAM 2, Tri-County 1 (11): Joey Thomas drove in a run for the Cougars (5-7) on Friday. Tri-County's Cam Cummings struck out six over five innings of scoreless relief. He also had two hits along with Dylan Maw and Nathan McCurdy.

TAUNTON 4, Franklin 2: Sean Kryzak was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Panthers on Friday in another Division 1 state final rematch. Franklin starter Jake Shaughnessy struck out six over 5 1/3 innings. Rex Cinelli had two hits for Franklin.

OXFORD 5, Millis 2: Aidan Sugrue had a hit and an RBI for Millis, wile Will Ferguson and Hayden Leach had one hit each. Millis starter Andrew Morse threw a complete game allowing just four hits with three strikeouts.

ASSABET 16, Keefe Tech 4: Andrew Talmo had four RBIs on a 4-for-5 day Friday for Assabet, which scored six runs in the top of the seventh. Assabet's Andrew Talcoff doubled with two RBIs on a 3-for-4 day, while C.J. Coelho homered and had two RBIs.

BOSTON ENGLISH 6, Nipmuc 2: Josh Giancola and Noah Parrotta (RBI) each had a double for the Warriors (7-7) on Friday.

FRANKLIN 9, King Philip 3: Ben Yuknis drove in three runs for the Panthers on Saturday. Franklin starter Austin Campbell struck out 13 over six innings allowing to walks. Dominic Caccavelli was 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Franklin's Henry Digiorgio (RBI), Rex Cinelli and Zach Winer (RBI) were each 2-for-3 and scored a run. Cole Sidwell (run), Lukas Phillip (double, run) and Michael Davide (RBI) each had an RBI for the Panthers.

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH 4, Natick 3: Alex Jacques was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs for the Redhawks on Saturday. Robert Farr and Jack Weierman (run) each had a hit and a walk.

Softball

SOUTHEASTERN 11, Tri-County 1: Kaleigh Stenstrom was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Cougars (10-3, 6-1 Mayflower) on Friday. Tri-County's Breann MacMillan doubled, stole a base and scored a run, while Aga Cossette and Elle Marshall (double) had one hit each.

ASSABET 4, St. Bernard's 2: Mariah Sousa went 3-for-4, Erin Blanchard was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Alexis Ducheine went 2-for-3 with an two RBIs for Assabet (3-7) on Friday. Assabet's Aaliyah Salamone doubled and drove in a run.

BAY PATH 7, AMSA 5: Ava McLeod drove in two with a triple in the first for  the Eagles (10-2, 5-1 Colonial).

HOPEDALE 8, Bay Path 6: Kelsey Evans (two RBIs), Layla Huntley (three RBIs) and Phoebe Carroll all homered, while Lizzie Brytowski struck out 14 for the Blue Raiders (14-1) on Saturday.

NATICK 9, Brookline 1: Liesl Neidermeyer had two RBIs on a 3-for-4 day Friday for the Redhawks (6-7).

Boys lacrosse

MILFORD 15, Bellingham 8: Ryan Austin scored three goals with an assist for the Blackhawks (4-10) on Saturday. Bellingham's Kyle Connors found the net twice, while Jack Baker went 21-of-27 on face offs.

BLACKSTONE VALLEY TECH 9, AMSA 7: Jackson Matroianni had five goals for the Beavers on Friday, scoring three in the fourth quarter. He added two assists. BVT's Nick Valoras found the net twice, while Jamie Nelson contributed three points with a goal and two assists.

DOVER-SHERBORN 11, Concord-Carlisle 10 (OT): Wyatt Pastore found the net four times, including the overtime winner Friday.

ST. BERNARD's 18, Assabet 4:  Brady Sacca scored two goals for Assabet (4-9) on Friday.

ASHLAND 8, Brookline 5: Alex Dinsdale put away a hat trick, while Bryce Pelletier scored twice for the Clockers (7-6) on Saturday.

MEDFIELD 14, Franklin 7: Ben Paterson scored twice for the Panthers on Saturday, while Dylan McEvoy added a goal and an assist.

Girls lacrosse

AMSA 16, BVT 4: Clare Jackson, Maeve Powers and Emma O’Malley recorded hat tricks for the Eagles on Friday. Isabella Grabau had a hat trick for the Beavers.

NOTRE DAME (WORCESTER) 14, Hopedale 4: Emily Frohn recorded a hat trick for the Blue Raiders (3-8, 2-8) on Friday.

Backyard to Big East: UConn-bound Anna Magennis honed her skill for Ashland girls lacrosse

ASHLAND 16, Grafton 6: Paige Tripp collected eight points with three goals and five assists for the Clockers (11-4) on Saturday. Ashland's Anna Magennis sored six times, while Julia Schreiber connected on four goals and two assists. Clockers goalie Alannah Duffy made nine saves, while Emma Chapman, Lili Vitti and Maggie Magennis each found the net once.

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 8, Hingham 7 (OT): Ella Ryan put away her third goal in the game to end it. Lydia Canavan scored two goals with six draw controls on Saturday for the Warriors (10-2). L-S' Lydia Mossi made six saves, picked up four ground balls and intercepted two passes. Harper Friedholm had two goals and three draw controls for L-S.

NIPMUC 17. Mount Greylock 6: Jayden Lilburn accumulated eight points with six goals and two assists for the Warriors (10-3) on Saturday. Nipmuc's Riley Collura added three goals and three assists.

Boys volleyball

WAYLAND 3, Boston Latin 2: Finn Bell hammered down 29 kills with 13 digs in a double-double for the Warriors on Friday. Setter Joey Burke distributed 51 assists for Wayland (9-5). Wayland's Joe Kelly also added a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Liam Frenzel picked up 25 digs.

Boys track and field

DISTRICT E DIVISION 2 CHAMPIONSHIPS: Hopedale's Ari Levine won the shot put championship at 50-7.75 and was second in the discus (150-07) on Saturday. BVT's Kenny Kalvinek placed first in the discus (158-4). AMSA's Zachary Barton took first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.94).

Girls tennis

WESTBOROUGH 3, Duxbury 2: Isabel Feldman cliched the victory with a three-set victory against Jordan Fiorentino Friday. Feldman lost the first set 2-6 before rallying 6-2 to force the third set and clinching the match 6-2. Westborough's Diya Bhattacharya bested Annabel Keating 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Sahasra Kommineni and Ella Chen prevailed 6-2, 7-6 (5) over Agnes Buell and Taylor Florek for Westborough (9-2).

ALGONQUIN 4, Bromfield 1: The Titans' depth did the job Friday. Algonquin's Siya Arde weathered three sets against Cassie Fisher, winning 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) at No. 3 singles. At No. 2 doubles, Sophie Kopstein and Riya Mahanta bested Nora Clarke and Meghan Nambia 6-7, 6-4, 11-0 for Algonquin (9-4). The Titans' No. 2 player Siyona Bhagwat beat Khivi Nanra 7-5, 6-0, and Algonquin's No. 1 doubles pair Claire Wallace and Becca White took down Nina Iverson and Caroline Ellis 6-2, 6-0.

NOTRE DAME ACADEMY 4, AMSA 1: Riley Whittier and Sameera Patnala picked up the point for the Eagles (3-9) at No. 2 doubles. They beat Catherine Pitvin and Rachelle Lito 6-2, 6-2 on Friday.
