Week 6 Scoreboard: Lucas pushes winning streak to four by beating Monroeville

MANSFIELD — The Lucas Cubs are in cruise control.

With a 31-28 win over Monroeville on Friday night, the Cubs (4-2) have now won four straight games and just knocked off one of the best teams in the Firelands Conference.

Logan Toms continued his stellar play as he started the night off with a 60-yard touchdown run with 10:51 left in the first quarter to put the Cubs on top 7-0. Monroeville answered with 6:31 left in the first to tie it up at 7 all, but Toms scored his second touchdown of the night with 1:32 left in the opening quarter to give the Cubs the 14-7 lead after one.

The Cubs took a 17-14 lead into halftime after Aidan Culler booted a 30-yard field goal as time expired on the half. After Monroeville took a 21-17 lead late in the third, the Cubs responded quickly when Grayson Jackson hit Aidan Culler with a 60-yard TD pass, the Cubs' first of the season, to go ahead 24-21.

Dan Hockensmith added the Cubs' final score of the night as Monroeville added a late score, but it wasn't enough and the Cubs earned a hard-fought road win.

Toms led the Cubs with 108 yards rushing on 15 carries while Jackson threw for 95 yards on three completions. The Cubs ran for 217 yards and threw for 95 to give them 312 yards of total offense.

They travel to Lima Central Catholic in Week 7.

Pleasant 30, Clear Fork 22

The Clear Fork Colts took a tough Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference loss to Pleasant on Friday night, 30-22.

The Colts took the early lead when Mason Sansom finished off a first-quarter drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. After Pleasant tied things up at seven, the Spartans earned a safety and added a touchdown pass to build a 16-7 lead. But the Colts wouldn't go away as Kasey Swank scored on a 2-yard run as time expired on the first half cutting Pleasant's lead to 16-14 at the break.

Sansom scored his second TD of the night on a 6-yard run early in the third quarter to give the Colts a 22-16 lead after three, but Pleasant scored 14 unanswered in the fourth quarter to pull off the victory.

Sansom ran for 68 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown while throwing for 79 yards on four completions. Swank ran for 75 yards and two TDs and caught two passes for 39 yards as the leading receiver.

Clear Fork is now 1-5 on the season and hosts Marion Harding in Week 7.
