Week 5 Cape Cod high school football scores and highlights

The first week of football in October starts now.

Friday consisted of four games where Cape teams faced off against each other. One of those contests was D-Y (2-2) traveling on the road to go head-to-head with Falmouth (2-1). One Cape team got their first win of the season using their ground game.

Two teams won their second straight games by double digits. On Saturday, the game of the week went down between two 3-0 teams in Mashpee and Hull. Find out who suffered their first loss of the season.

Friday, Oct. 7

Sandwich 7, Nantucket 0: Brady Carroll scored the lone TD of the game on third-and-2 in the first quarter for the Blue Knights as they shutout the Whalers.

Carroll finished with 130 rushing yards on 24 carries (5.4 yards per carry), and Jack Mulcahy rushed five times for 20 yards for Sandwich (3-2).

Nantucket falls to 0-5 on the season.

Nauset 41, Martha’s Vineyard 13: Brendan Peno reached the end zone five times (4 passing, 1 rush) for the Warriors as they won for the third time in four games. Dillon White and Owen White each caught two TDs, and Logan Daniels had a rushing TD for Nauset (3-2).

Upper Cape 18, Holbrook/Avon 6: Keno Glenn led the Rams offense with 151 rushing yards and three touchdowns as they beat the Bulldogs for their first win of the season. Vincent Hume ran for 51 yards, and Davonte Green had 34 yards on the ground for Upper Cape (1-4). Jaqari Auguste and Vincent Hume each had an interception.

Bourne 21, Monomoy 14: Kelly DeSimone led the offensive charge for the Canalmen with two rushing TDs in a win over the Sharks to break their three-game losing streak.

Ty Kelley threw a TD pass to Craig Hill for Bourne (2-3). Isaiah Roderick and Ty Healey both played well on defense, and the offensive line were good up front.

Falmouth 39, Dennis-Yarmouth 16: Cooper Young finished with three total TDs (2 rushing, 1 passing) for the Clippers as they won their second straight game. Cooper Young had a TD on the ground and caught another one for Falmouth (3-1). Collin Govoni helped the ground game with a rushing TD.

On the defensive side, Jayden Bernhardt had a fumble recovery for a TD, Nicholas Guidi had a fumble recovery, and Jackson Mahoney had an interception for Falmouth.

Jayden Barber threw a 41-yard TD pass to Peyton Kellett, and Jake Arsenault had a 12-yard rushing TD for D-Y (2-3).

Barnstable 20, New Bedford 6: Tajardo France was everywhere on the field as he finished with 107 rushing yards, 37 receiving yards, and a pick six for the Red Hawks second straight win.

Kundel had a passing TD to France and a two-point conversion pass to Andrew Lovell for Barnstable (2-3). Tony White rushed for a five-yard TD. On defense, Kurt Campbell had four tackles for loss and two sacks for Barnstable.

Saturday, Oct. 8

Bristol-Plymouth 21, St. John Paul II 6: Jack Kalkus ran for a TD in the loss.

South Shore Tech 14, Cape Tech 12: Ronald Timm (5-yard catch) and Cameron McCormack (60-yard rush) scored for the Crusaders.

Hull 14, Mashpee 6: Dom Matteodo scored the lone TD for the Falcons (3-1) in the loss.
