Jonesville wins the Fight for M-99

The second annual Fight for M-99 took place at Jonesville High School in front of a student assembly from Jonesville and Hillsdale, along with fans of both the Hornets and Comets.

The dual between the Comets and the Hornets has become the best example in southern Michigan of how rivalry events should be held. Both teams gathered at 1 p.m. in front of one of the largest wrestling crowds both programs will see in their schedules this season. Both teams fought over the M-99 trophy, which was won by Jonesville in the inaugural event last winter.

The dual was accompanied by a live DJ (Victor Wells), who introduced each match with a walk-up entrance for both grapplers and staged lights.

The Comets won the dual, including two exhibition matches at the end of the event.

Jordan Van Sickle (175) pinned Robert Garcia of Hillsdale. Hornet brothers Stephen (190) and John (215) Petersen both pinned their opponents (Isaac Shively and Evan McColley). Cooper Stevens of Jonesville won his official match against Gage Rosenberry by pinfall at 285.

In his exhibition match against Hornet Wyatt Wahtola, Stevens avenged his week 1 loss with a pinfall victory that earned the loudest reaction of the event from the crowd.

Hornet Oliver Heckel pinned Harrison Packer (106). Comet Blake Ryan (113) won by pinfall over Luke Webster. Cody Nichols (120) won by pinfall over Devon Carver of Hillsdale. Hornet brothers Colton and Ethan Wolf won their matches (Colton by pinfall).

Comet Carson Playford won by a 10-4 decision over Logan Bayer (138). Hornet Miles Brown (144) won by 12-11 decision over Tyler Milks. Hornet Brody Arnold (150) won by a forfeit. Comets Ben Colbart (157) and Austin Bowers (165) both won the final official matches of the event.

Both coaches thanked Jonesville Athletics department for helping organize the event and DJ Victor Wells for volunteering his time for the event. Both coaches also thanked their fans who made the tournament have a larger-than-life atmosphere. (Results may be updated)
