Here are Wednesday's Fantastic Five MetroWest and Milford high school athletes

They dug out quick. After snow largely siped the Tuesday slate clean, these athletes stood out in Wednesday's action.

Their performances included late heroics, breakthrough triumphs and scoring outbursts.

Here are the Fantastic Five MetroWest and Milford athletes from Wednesday, Jan. 17:

SIMON BLEIER, Westborough boys basketball

He hit a 3-pointer with about a minute remaining to seal a 58-57 win over Shepherd Hill on Wednesday. Three other Rangers Rangers (8-1, 5-0 Mid-Wach B) hit double figures: Nicholas Bellofato (12), Alec Desrosiers (11) and Joe Marino (10).

ETHAN GUO/DEREK PEDREROS, Marlborough boys hockey

Guo, a freshman, and Pedreros, a junior, scored their first varsity goals in a 6-3 victory over Lowell Catholic on Wednesday. The Panthers (6-3-1) are 5-0-1 in their last six games.

AVA PALIZZOLO, Assabet Valley girls basketall

She scored 19 points to lead Assabet to its first win 43-14 over Oxford in overtime Wednesday. Olivia Russell contributed seven points, and Eliza Tardiff had six.

MATT PARLON, Medway boys basketball

The sophomore scored 24 points Wednesday in a 62-54 win over Holliston. Reuben Simon added 12 points, six rebounds and fours teals for the Mustangs (5-5, 56-3 Tri-Valley League).

MIRIAM QURESHI, Wayland girls swimming & diving

The sophomore won the 500-yard freestyle and was a part of winning 400 free relay with Cara Hill, Kalena Imura and Catie Pralle, as the Warriors stayed undefeated with a 93-90 victory over Newton South on Wednesday. Qureshi also placed second in the 200 freestyle. Hill captured the 100 backstroke victory individually for Wayland (11-0, 7-0 Dual County League). Adah Shulman was first in the 100 butterfly and second in the 200 individual medley.

Boys basketball

HOPKINTON 68, Millis 41: Anthony DeLuca led three Hillers in double figures with 15 points Wednesday. Cooper Willadsen and Jack Ianelli scored 14 each for Hopkinton (7-2, 7-1 TVL). Sean Ryan hit two 3s and had 12 points for Millis (4-6, 2-3).

BAY PATH 44, AMSA 30: Niko Chaplain led the Eagles (2-7, 2-3) with 11 points Wednesday. Braden DeZutter added nine points.

HOPEDALE 42, Whitinsville Christian 35: Patrick Madden powered the Blue Raiders (6-5, 2-3 Dual Valley) with 17 points Wednesday.

LUNENBURG 67, Hudson 55: Jackson O'Brien scored 12 points in a road loss Wednesday. Jake Attaway added 18 points for the Hawks (5-6, 2-4 Mid-Wach C).

Girls basketball

SOUTHEASTERN 44, Tri-County 35: Ivy Young grabbed 10 rebounds and scored six points for the Cougars (5-4, 0-2 Mayflower) on Wednesday. Gabby Dergham put up eight points and four assists, while Jolee Tofani scored seven for Tri-County

MILLIS 45, Hopkinton 38: Grace Higgins scored 13 points with eight rebounds for Millis (6-5, 3-5 TVL), and Kyra Rice added 11 points Wednesday. Elena Davis led Hopkinton (6-4, 4-4) with 15 points.

BAY PATH 37, AMSA 36: Riley Whittier scored 12 points Wednesday, as the Eagles (7-3, 3-1 Colonial) fell on a late free throw with 12 seconds remaining.

BLACKSTONE VALLEY TECH 57, Auburn 45: Skyla Jack scored 20 points and Danika Kirby had 14 for the Beavers (5-5).

HOPEDALE 42, Whitinsville Christian 29: Phoebe Carroll pulled down 15 rebounds and scored 10 points for the double-double Wednesday. Mackenzie Reynolds led Hopedale (4-5, 3-1 Dual Valley) with 16 points.

SUTTON 49, Nipmuc 19: Savannah Carr and Maddie Grant scored five points each for the Warriors (3-6, 2-3 DVC) on Wednesday.

WESTBOROUGH 53, Shepherd Hill 47: Rachel Carpenter hit four 3s and scored 16 points, while Kate Sams added 17 points for the Rangers (5-5, 5-0 Mid-Wach B). Annabelle Semeter contributed nine points, six rebounds and six assists for Westborough.

OAKMONT 40, Marlborough 39: Meghan Deneed paced the Panthers (7-3, 3-2 Mid-Wach B) with 15 points, while Isabella Miele scored 13 on Wednesday.

HUDSON 49, Lunenburg 44: Samantha Collette notched a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for the Hawks. Audrey Lenox scored 10 points, while Madeline Haher grabbed 12 rebounds with six points for Hudson (7-4).

Boys ice hockey

WOBURN 6, Natick 4: Alex Peck distributed three assists for the Redhawks on Wednesday. Sam Hubbard and Joe MacDonnell each scored twice for Natick. MacDonnell's second tied the game late in the third.

ALGONQUIN 4, North Middlesex 2: Jared Walsh, Parker Redfern, Luke Palma and Wyatt Shea scored for the Titans (6-3-2) on Wednesday. Algonquin's Nicholas Robbins made 15 saves, while Gilbert Prepetit, Andrew Duleavy and Jack Doolan contributed an assist each.

NASHOBA 7, Hopedale 1: Nolan Smith tied the game in the first period from Sean McGee and Dom Ducher for the Blue Raiders (3-6-1). Nathan Morin made22 saves for Hopedale.

WAYLAND/WESTON 5, Concord Carlisle 4: Molly Ross contributed to every goal with three goals and two assists in the Wednesday win. Coco Curran (two assists) and Mackenzie Regan each scored once, while Angela An and Kate Lamb contributed an assist each for Wayland/Weston (5-4, 3-3 MVC/Dual County).

Boys swimming & diving

WAYLAND 96, Newton South 67: Peter Morris won the 50 and 100 freestyle sprints Wednesday, and Aidan Huang took first in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke. Justin McLeod topped the diving event. Finn Surratt finished first in the 500 free, and David Ryu touched first in the 100 backstroke.

Swimming & diving

AMSA 130, Worcester 44: Samarth Ravankar (200 IM), Yuval Artzi (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Avery Rogers (1-meter dive), Alexander Bruno (100 butterfly), Jagger Sandford (500 freestyle) and captain Casey Matijevic (100 backstroke) earned wins for the Eagles on Wednesday.
