Watertown Hockey: Laker varsity teams open weekend with five wins

The Watertown Lakers’ varsity girls and boys hockey teams opened weekend play with five wins on Friday and Saturday.

The girls overcame a 3-0 deficit to beat Huron 7-4 on Friday and also beat Brookings 4-2 on Saturday in SDAHA games in the Maas Ice Arena.

Jaclyn Lloyd scored four goals and Jillian Busch, Jayda Kranz and Rylie Redlin each one for the Lakers (3-3) on Friday. Jaclyn and Janel Lloyd and Kranz each had two asssits and Redlin and Busch each one. Emma Foisel made 36 saves.

On Saturday, Jaclyn Lloyd added two goals and two assists, Meg Sunde two goals, Janel Lloyd three assists, Kayla Randall one assist and Foisel 32 saves.

Watertown was set to visit Yankton on Sunday.

The Laker boys (4-2) won their first three games in the Great River Winter Classic at Onalaska (Wis.), beating the Crystal Lake (Ill.) D155 Predators on Friday and the Hoffman Estates (Ill.) Wolf Pack 8-0 and Milwaukee (Wis.) SHAW Timberwolves 4-1 on Saturday.

No other details were available.

Watertown was scheduled to close out round-robin play by facing the Kenosha (Wis.) Komets on Sunday. The championship game was set to follow.
