How to Watch the U.S. Grand Prix Halfpipe and Big Air for Free

  • The Toyota U.S. Grand Prix takes place Dec. 14-17, 2022 at Copper Mountain Resort, Colo. You can live stream the qualifiers and finals in each of the four events on Outside Watch, or the Outside TV app, available on Apple, Android, Roku, or Fire TV streaming devices. The schedule is as follows:

From Dec. 14-17, world’s best freeskiers and snowboarders will gather at Copper Mountain for the U.S. Grand Prix and Visa Big Air presented by Toyota. It’s one of the longest-standing freestyle events in the country and, during Olympic years like last winter, serves as a big part of the U.S. Freeski and U.S. Snowboard Team Olympic qualification process.

There will be four events over the course of four days--two each for skiers and snowboarders--each with a round of qualifiers followed by the finals. This is the first of three freestyle World Cup events taking place in the U.S. this winter, with the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix returning to Mammoth in February 2023, along with the Intermountain Healthcare Freestyle Ski World Cup in Deer Valley during that same week.

Halfpipe and Big Air competitions comprise the event, with the men’s and women’s ski and snowboard fields competing consecutively in each. The U.S. Grand Prix halfpipe event has been taking place at Copper since 2013, and is a good fit for the Colorado resort known for its well-maintained parks and pipes. Ever since Woodward opened its first winter facility at Copper in 2009, the resort has embraced its stature as a premier destination for the park and pipe crowd. The competition will take place in Copper’s 22-foot Superpipe, located on Lower Main Vein, near Center Village. The 550-foot-long, 80-foot-wide pipe is consistently the first Olympic-sized halfpipe to open in North America every winter. Watch for each competitor to perform about five tricks throughout the length of the pipe.

The Visa Big Air events returns to Copper after a four-year hiatus. The course is located on the Lower Bouncer trail and features a 70-foot jump, off of which the skiers and snowboarders will be visible to spectators in Center Village. Competitors will start their runs from a 70-foot-high snow-covered scaffolding to ensure they get enough height to perform their tricks safely.
