How to watch Texas-BYU: Start time, TV broadcast, streaming and more stories to know
Texas pulled off a Houdini act last week against Houston, leaving their stadium with a 31-24 win that featured referee controversies, a blown 21-0 lead and most importantly of all, a Quinn Ewers injury.
Now 6-1, talk this week has been dominated by questions over the Longhorns' quarterback position, though it's confirmed that Maalik Murphy will start vs. BYU on Saturday. It'll be the first career start for the redshirt freshman, who's been relegated to cleanup duty for most of the season. Excitement for Murphy has been high, but questions have been raised on whether former five-star recruit Arch Manning will see some time on Saturday as well.
Regardless, Steve Sarkisian's alumni school BYU is coming off of a strong 27-14 win over Texas Tech that saw the Cougars defense nab three interceptions from Red Raiders quarterback Jake Strong. At 5-2, BYU has suffered losses to Kansas and TCU this year and is led by graduate transfer Kedon Slovis.
Despite coming off a strong performance, the Cougars' defense has not been particularly good in 2023, giving Murphy a good opportunity to get his feet wet. However, Texas' defense will need to hold up on the other end after a sloppy performance vs. Houston.
Here's how to watch the matchup and other stories to read before the game.
