What To Watch: Texas (7-4) takes on Baylor (6-5)

The Texas Longhorns take on the Baylor Bears at 11 a.m. CT on Friday. The pivotal game will take place before a national audience on ESPN.

The Longhorns have done their best when doubted and dismissed by the national sports media. Friday’s game presents another opportunity for Steve Sarkisian and company to win a game without the college football media singing Texas’ praises.

At stake for the team is an 8-4 regular season record and an outside chance at a Big 12 championship. The Baylor Bears have other plans.

Baylor has disappointed after a conference title victory last season. The Bears are struggling most on the defensive side, as opponents have gashed them in spurts this season.

The winner of the game can finish the season with positive momentum and secure better bowl positioning. Let’s look at what to watch in the game.

Texas OL vs Baylor DL

The Texas interior offensive line will be tested today. Baylor has been up and down in run defense all season, but it’s fair to expect they’ll bring their best today.

Quarterback play

Quinn Ewers will continue to be a story for Texas until he returns to form. I wouldn’t predict dramatic improvement today, but at some point over the next year he should take a big step forward.

The game could be the final performance for multiple players with eligibility remaining. Others who have exhausted eligibility should bring their best effort.

Bijan farewell?

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Bijan Robinson is one player presumed to depart Austin for the 2023 NFL Draft. If so, he will want a strong final performance for the home crowd.

Texas wants to win next year too. Xavier Worthy would figure to be a huge part of a contending team next season. He will be a player to watch in the game.
