WATCH: Rutgers football scores 1st TD of season with big catch from freshman Ian Strong

PISCATAWAY – Rutgers football couldn’t draw up its opening drive much better.

Solid passes from Gavin Wimsatt. Two successful fourth-down conversions.

And to cap it all off, a strong throw from Wimsatt to true freshman wide receiver Ian Strong, who went up in the back left corner of the end zone, made the catch and managed to get his left foot down for the touchdown.

The officials initially ruled it an incomplete pass but overturned it after a review, giving the Scarlet Knights a 7-0 lead with 8:04 to go in the first quarter after the PAT.

Rutgers kept the drive going when it had fourth-and-1 from its own 48 and Kyle Monangai picked up an eight-yard gain.

Then the Scarlet Knights went for it on fourth-and-5 from the Northwestern 39 and Wimsatt hit Christian Dremel for a 17-yard gain.

It was a solid early showing for Rutgers’ offense.
