WATCH: Oswaldo Cabrera smacks Yankees' first home run of the 2024 season

After what appeared to be an ominous start for the Yankees against the Astros on Opening Day, Oswaldo Cabrera helped bring the Bombers back to life.

The utility man, this time playing third base, took Rafael Montero deep to the right field late Thursday afternoon for the Yankees' first home run of the 2024 season. The jack tied the score at four in the sixth inning.

The Astros hit New York starter Nestor Cortes early, posting three runs in the first frame and an addition run in the second inning thanks to a home run from Houston's Jake Meyer. The Yankees rallied back with three runs in the fifth, which included Juan Soto's first hit in pinstripes, before Cabrera's homer.

In what was considered a down year compared to previous seasons, the Yankees finished ninth in MLB in 2023 with 219 home runs.
