Watch: Get a glimpse into Rams practice with a mic’d-up Sean McVay

Sean McVay isn’t a coach who just stands on the sidelines and watches practice, delegating to his assistant coaches and coordinators. He gets right in the action and takes the field with his players.

He runs coverage against receivers, coaches up his defensive backs and shows some fire at times. It’s what makes him such an excellent coach and someone guys want to play for.

The Rams gave a glimpse into practice by putting a mic on McVay and there were some great moments in the video.

He lined up across from Cooper Kupp, though not in an attempt to actually guard him. McVay also shared a great teaching moment with rookie cornerback Derion Kendrick.

“You’ve been undefeated until now,” he told the rookie. “But you know what, though? It’s good for you too. Were you playing his hands or his eyes? Because you’re in great phase.”

After Kendrick explained his thought process, McVay shared his thoughts on the rep and how Kendrick could be better.

“Here’s what I would say: Even if you bump-bail, you can play catch technique because you’ve got no vertical grass, so let him work into you, now you’re just playing off of him and ready to play through the hands. Or, if you want to come up and bump, which I think that’s one of your elite traits. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it either, right?”

It’s no wonder the Rams are able to attract so many stars and put together such a solid team each year.
