Watch former Texas Tech baseball star Josh Jung’s defensive gem against Houston Astros

Josh Jung is familiar with making defensive plays at third base.

The former Texas Tech baseball player made a habit of wowing crowds at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park during his playing days in Lubbock. Now, the infielder is doing the same for the Texas Rangers as they take on the Houston Astros in the second game of the American League Championship series.

With two outs in the bottom of the second and his team up 4-1, Jung slid to his right before making a backhanded a grab and rocketed the ball to first base for the final out of the inning. His quickness saved a potential extra-base hit for Chas McCormick, who was trying to rally the Astros. It was a key play for the Rangers, who lead the series 1-0.

His web gem loomed large as the Rangers got a solo home run from Jonah Heim to increase their lead 5-1 in the top of the third inning at Minute Maid Park. The game is being played on FOX and FOX Sports 1.

Going into Tuesday’s contest, Jung has nine hits — including a home run — and three RBI in the postseason.
