Watch Ortiz fire dollar bills at Bogaerts in clear message to Red Sox originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

It couldn't be more clear which side of the Xander Bogaerts debate that David Ortiz is on.

The Boston Red Sox legend is firmly in the "pay the man" camp.

Ortiz, in his own hilarious way, sent a message to the Red Sox at the All-Star festivities in Los Angeles on Monday by spraying money at Bogaerts on the FOX Sports set.

Check out the funny scene in the video below:

Bogaerts has the ability to opt out of his contract after this season and become an unrestricted free agent. It would make sense for him to do so and secure a more lucrative long-term deal. He's one of the game's best shortstops and in the prime of his career at 29 years old.

The Red Sox did not spend to keep Mookie Betts in Boston and ultimately traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020. There is a real concern among the fan base that the Red Sox also won't do what it takes to keep both Bogaerts and Rafael Devers in town long term. Devers is under team control for only one more year.

The Red Sox have the resources to pay Bogaerts and Devers. Letting both walk would send a horrible signal to the fans and the team's own players about the direction of the franchise.
