WATCH: Brandon Nimmo blasts leadoff home run to give Mets early answer in Subway Series

NEW YORK — After the Yankees struck first, Brandon Nimmo provided a quick answer on Tuesday night at Citi Field.

The Mets fell behind by one run in the top of the first inning before Nimmo blasted a leadoff home run to right-center field off Luis Severino to even the score at 1-1.

It was Nimmo's eighth career leadoff home run and sixth of the 2022 season.

Nimmo owns Severino, entering the night with three hits in five at-bats, including a double and two walks against the Yankees starter.

After a pair of walks, Brett Baty gave the Mets their first lead of the game with an RBI single up the middle to score Francisco Alvarez.

Giancarlo Stanton provided the opening tally for the Yankees on a 408-foot solo home run off Max Scherzer with one out in the top of the first inning. It is the third home run that Scherzer has allowed in his last four starts.
