Voters flock to polls for Football Player, Athlete of the Week awards
Voters turned out in big numbers to make their voices heard in the Monroe County Region Football Player and Athlete of the Week Polls for Oct. 2-8.
Both drew the highest numbers of the fall.
Football Player of the Week Wyatt Dirkmaat of Ida drew 715 votes, nearly four times as many as last week’s winner.
Runner-up Ian Foster of St. Mary Catholic Central (485) and third-place Malachi Pribyl of Jefferson (213) also surpassed last week’s winning total of 181.

The numbers were even bigger in the Athlete of the Week poll.
A shootout between soccer players Nolan Sanders of Airport and New Boston Huron’s Ian Petrick made voters flock to the polls.
Sanders took the top spot with 896 and Petrick finished with 846.
The top vote-getter last week finished with 502.
The final vote totals for both awards are listed below.
