Tulare County athlete of the week: Exeter's Natasha Anguiano

Exeter girls basketball player Natasha Anguiano was voted by readers as the Visalia Times-Delta Tulare County high school athlete of the week.

In an online poll that closed on Jan. 26, Anguiano received 6,490 votes, or a 27.9% majority, of the 23,308 responses.

Anguiano dropped a team-high 19 points in a 54-44 win against Central Valley Christian.

Here are the choices for the week of Jan. 22-26:

  • Natasha Anguiano, girls basketball, Exeter: Anguiano dropped a team-high 19 points in a 54-44 win against Central Valley Christian.

  • Christopher Creason, boys wrestling, El Diamante: Creason captured first place at 157 pounds at the annual California Invitational Tournament in Morro Bay to earn the tournament's outstanding upperweight award. He had a win by pin in the second-round finals.

  • Kaloni Cox, girls basketball, Tulare Union: Cox scored 14 points in a 46-45 loss to Mission Oak.

  • Jayme Gomez, girls soccer, Redwood: Gomez bagged a hat trick to anchor the Rangers to a 14-0 rout of Monache.

  • Selby Mendez, girls soccer, Mt. Whitney: Mendez pitched a shutout and had six saves in a 3-0 victory against Monache.

  • Josiah Ochoa, boys basketball, Dinuba: Ochoa drained 22 points with three rebounds to direct the Emperors to a 69-63 win over Lemoore.

  • Jaden Perez, girls basketball, Summit Charter: Perez scored 25 points to lead the Bears to a 70-16 win over Wonderful College Prep.

  • Caleb Rivas, boys wrestling, Golden West: Rivas placed first in his weight class at the CIT. Rivas won the 120-pound title and registered a pin in the finals' first round. He was the tournament's outstanding lowerweight grappler.

  • Malakai Rodriguez, boys basketball, Mission Oak: Rodriguez netted a team-best 18 points to lead the Hawks to a 78-67 win versus Hanford.

  • Justin Stroud, boys basketball, CVC: Stroud scored a game-high 20 points with nine rebounds, four assists and five steals as the Cavaliers topped Reedley 87-52.

  • Haylie Tassey, girls basketball, Farmersville: Tassey recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds in a 75-31 win over Summit Charter.

  • Regina Toscano, girls basketball, Tulare Western: Toscano delivered 15 points, five rebounds and four steals in a 38-32 win over Lemoore.

All high school varsity players from Tulare County can be on the ballot. Nominations must be received for consideration by Monday morning following that week's games.
