Vote for TCPalm's Athlete of the Week for May 1-6

Eight student athletes are in consideration for TCPalm's Athlete of the Week for May 1-6.

Last week, Fort Pierce Central flag football standout Alyssa Llanos received over 27,000 votes to receive Athlete of the Week honors.

Llanos caught two touchdowns on offense and added four flag pulls on defense in the Cobras' 13-7 victory over Martin County on April 26 in the Region 3-2A quarterfinals.

This week's poll will go live at noon on Tuesday and will close Friday at noon.

Coaches can email scores to bcooney@gannett.com or TCsports@tcpalm.com each night in order for athletes to be considered to be nominated each week.

Brian O’Shea, Centennial

In the Eagles’ 7-6 win in the District 10-7A championship game over Vero Beach on May 4, O’Shea came in for relief and struck out four over three innings of one-run ball to pick up the save and secure Centennial’s place in the state playoffs.

Tracen Cameron, John Carroll Catholic

In the District 13-2A championship game, Cameron struck out 10 in six innings of one-run ball in the Rams’ 6-1 win over Master’s Academy on May 4.

Kevin Smith, Jensen Beach

In three games helping the Falcons win the District 13-4A championship, Smith had hits in all three games batting .500 (5-for-10) with three doubles, a triple and drove in seven runs.

Carmela Baker, Centennial

In the District 11-7A title game on May 3, Baker had a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to help the Eagles defeat Treasure Coast 4-3.

Mallory Wheeler, Jensen Beach

In the Falcons’ 4-0 win over Suncoast in the District 13-4A Championship on May 2, Wheeler struck out 15 in a two-hit shutout and added a pair of hits at the plate.

Michael Carter, Vero Beach

At the Region 3-4A Championship on May 5, Carter won the long jump with a best leap of 6.82 meters and ran a leg of the winning 4x100 relay team for Vero as the team brought home the regional championship.

Denzel Alexander, Martin County

At the Region 3-4A Championship on May 5, Alexander beat a loaded field in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.80 seconds to earn his berth to the state tournament.

Tyler Hughes, Fort Pierce Central

At the Region 3-4A Championship on May 5, Hughes won the high jump with a best jump of 1.97 meters for the Cobras.
