Vote for the Storm Works Roofing High School Football Defensive/ST Player of the Week
Cardinal Spellman High's Chris Soto has been voted the Storm Works Roofing & Restoration High School Football Defensive/Special Teams Player of the Week.
The sophomore collected over 29,000 votes (45.9%) to earn the honor. In a 49-0 win over Arlington Catholic, Soto returned a blocked punt for a score. Offensively, he chipped in 114 yards rushing a pair of touchdowns in the first half alone.
And this week's candidates are...
Marshall Rice and Sirewl Cox, BC High: Rice and Cox both returned interceptions for TDs in a 46-8 win over Taunton in the Div. 1 playoffs.
Charlie Leach + Gio Joseph, Marshfield: Both players had defensive TDs in Marshfield's 55-34 win over Plymouth North in the Div. 3 playoffs. Leach forced a fumble and returned it 76 yards while Joseph had a 95-yard pick six.
Jax Leduc, Rockland: Leduc had a pair of interceptions in a 14-7 win over Millbury in the Div. 7 playoffs.
Derek Lopes + Jake Hyland, Carver: In a 55-0 win over Franklin County Tech in the Div. 8 playoffs, Lopes and Hyland both intercepted two passes.
Alin Norsica, Randolph: No. 12 Randloph upset No. 5 Ware, 3-0, in the Div. 8 playoffs. Norsica scored the game's only points on a 30-yard field goal.
Matt Lee, Jr., Whitman-Hanson: Lee recorded three sacks in a 14-0 non-playoff win over Medfield.
Jake Haarde, Sr., Lincoln-Sudbury: A Penn State baseball commit, Haarde had an interception and caught five balls on offense as the Warriors (7-2) fell in the Division 1 playoffs to Weymouth, 20-0.
Garrett Giorgio + Owen Nanartowich, Jrs., Hudson: Giorgio amassed 91 yards and a score on the ground with 11.5 tackles on defense to lead the fourth-seeded Hawks (7-2) to a 42-27 win over Sandwich in a Division 6 state first-round matchup in Hudson. Nanartowich led the way with 11 tackles in the win for Hudson, which hosts No. 5 Lynnfield at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Diego Kraus, Sr., Wellesley: The cornerback Kraus made eight tackles and had an interception as the seventh-seeded Raiders (5-4) blanked Belmont, 42-0, in a Division 2 first-round game. Wellesley will visit No. 2 Catholic Memorial in the state quarterfinals on Friday (7 p.m.).
