Plymouth's Sophie Wray wins South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week vote, May 13-19, 2024

Congratulations to Plymouth senior Sophie Wray on winning the South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week vote for May 13-19, 2024. Wray had a strong performance at the Bremen girls track sectional to win.

WINNER: Plymouth girls track senior Sophie Wray

Wray was a three-time winner at the Bremen sectional Tuesday, emerging victorious in the 800-meter run (2:23.39), 1,600-meter run (5:11.61), and the 3,200-meter run (11:34.18). She also advanced to regionals on the 4X800-meter relay team for Plymouth that finished third at the meet.

OTHER NOMINEES

Bremen boys track junior Luke Kincaid

Kincaid was a three-time winner at the Plymouth sectional, triumphing in the 800-meter run (2:03.61), 1,600-meter run (4:31.01) and as the anchor leg of the winning 4x800 relay team (8:25.14).

Fairfield boys golf junior Brayden Miller

Miller kept up his tremendous season by shooting a 67 to win the NECC Tournament Saturday. It was part of a 302 team score for the Falcons, which won them the team title and set a program record in the process.

Goshen baseball junior Kyan Miller

While Miller batted .400 in three wins this week for the RedHawks, his most impactful performance came on the pitching mound. He threw all eight innings, striking out 10 in a 2-1 win over Wawasee.

Mishawaka softball junior Camilia Ramirez-Quijada

Ramirez-Quijada dazzled in the pitcher's circle this week, tossing two complete game shutouts in wins over Wawasee and Northridge. She only allowed four total hits while striking out 25 batters between the Warriors and Raiders, helping Mishawaka finish off an unbeaten NLC campaign.

Penn boys track 4X100-meter relay team

One of the fastest relays in the state showed off at its home sectional Thursday, with the quartet of Elijah Coker, Kohen Turner, Camden Anderson and Trevor Hardesty setting a sectional record with its winning time of 41.87 seconds. The old mark had stood for 11 years.
