It was a big week for Eugene area athletes with an individual title in girls golf among other big performances.

This week's Register-Guard Athlete of the Week nominees are:

  • Francesca Tomp, North Eugene girls golf

  • Breanna Raven, Thurston track and field

  • Owen Davis-Piger, South Eugene boys golf

  • Olivia Grandberry, Thurston girls golf

Francesca Tomp, North Eugene

The sophomore carded a seven-over par 151 to become the individual champion at the OSAA Class 5A state championship for the second year in a row.

The senior qualified for the state meet in the girls long jump with a personal best of 19 feet, 6 inches at the 5A Midwestern League district meet.

Owen Davis-Piger, South Eugene

The junior carded a three-over par 147 to finish tied for third as an individual at the OSAA Class 6A state championship.

Olivia Grandberry, Thurston

Thurston junior Olivia Grandberry finished tied for fourth at the OSAA Class 5A state golf championship.

The junior carded a 17-over par 161 to finish tied for fourth as an individual at the OSAA Class 5A state championship.
