Vote now: Track standouts Walker, Williams highlight this week's Tremendous 10 poll

With the spring season winding down, now is the time for athletes to be at their best.

This week's list of nominees for the Tremendous 10 poll is littered with track athletes winning multiple events at district meets and baseball and softball hitters swinging hot bats to end the regular season. The Tremendous 10 poll this week will be open until noon on Friday.

1 Lakeland senior Micheal Walker (boys track and field) threw 156 feet 6 inches in the javelin and 145-11.25 in the discus en route to winning both events at the Class 3A, District 8 track and field meet. He also finished third in the shot put (43-1).

2 Bartow senior first baseman Julia Heter (softball) went 4-for-5 in two games with two doubles, seven RBIs and four runs scored. For the season, she is batting .400 with 21 RBIs.

3 George Jenkins junior Chelsi Williams (girls track and field) won four events at the 4A-10 district meet. She won the long jump (19-2), triple jump (38-0.75), 100 hurdles (13.83 seconds) and the 400 hurdles (1:02.44).

4 Lakeland sophomore Gavin Byrd (baseball) batted .500 (5-for-10) with one home run, seven RBIs and three runs scored. For the season, he is batting .444 with six home runs and 33 RBIs.

5 Lake Wales' Kansas Henry (girls track and field) won two events at the 3A-8 meet. She won the 400 in 58.20 and the 200 in 25.00.

6 Santa Fe Catholic junior Michael Welling (baseball) went 6-for-9 with a double, a triple and seven RBIs in three wins. For the season, he is batting .385.

7 Lakeland's Tajhana South (girls track and field) won the long jump (17-0.25) and the triple jump (38-7.5) and was second in the 200 at the 3A-8 meet.

8 Victory Christian's Amber Choquette (girls track and field) won the 100 hurdles (16.85) and the 400 hurdles (1:11.07) and took second in the triple jump (34-4.75).

9 Victory Christian's Keely Ortiz (girls track and field) won the shot put (35-11.25) and the discus (108-8) at the 1A-10 meet.

10 Davenport senior Lyric Pittman (softball) went 7-for-7 in three games with three RBIs and six runs scored. For the season, she is batting .667 with 29 RBIs.
