Last week saw plenty of standout performances in boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball, field hockey, girls swimming, and cross country across Eastern Connecticut. While there's no shortage of talent, we went and found the best of the best.

Mercedes Aleksjuka, Norwich Free Academy

Wildcats junior placed first in the 50 and 100 freestyle events and was also part of the winning 200 Medley Relay team to lead the Wildcats girls swimming and diving team to a 71-60 non-league win over Suffield.

Brooke Bolles, Norwich Free Academy

Wildcats senior had an unassisted goal as NFA clinched the ECC Division I girls soccer regular season title with a 3-0 victory over Stonington. Bolles also had a goal and an assist in the Wildcats’ 2-0 win over Woodstock Academy.

John Fitzgibbons, Killingly

Killingly junior had one goal and one assist as the Killingly boys soccer team advanced to the ECC Division II tournament semifinals with a 2-0 victory over Wheeler. Fitzgibbons also scored the game winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Lyman Memorial and had a goal in 3-1 win over rival Plainfield.

Michael George, Norwich Tech

Warriors senior notched a hat trick and an assist as Norwich Tech clinched the CTC Charter Oak Division boys soccer title with a 4-0 win over Grasso Tech. The Warriors (12-2-2) finished undefeated in the CTC for the second consecutive season.

Louis Hawkins, Norwich Free Academy

Wildcats senior scored two goals as NFA advanced to the ECC Division I boys soccer tournament semifinals with a 3-1 victory over Windham. Hawkins also netted two goals in the Wildcats’ 3-0 Senior Night win against Fitch.

Tycen LaBelle, Griswold

Wolverines freshman Tycen LaBelle was the runner up at the CIAC Class SS boys state cross country championship meet at Wickham Park in Manchester. LaBelle’s time was 16 minutes and 55 seconds.

Kierra Neilson, Griswold

Wolverines junior collected 10 kills, six blocks, and digs to lead the Griswold girls volleyball team past SMSA, 25-16, 25-13, 20-25, and 25-15.
