Katie Cassesa voted North Jersey Softball Player of the Week for April 30-May 6

After four days of voting, Paramus' Katie Cassesa was selected as the North Jersey Softball Player of the Week.

Cassesa is on this list for the second straight week, and why not? She’s led Paramus into the Bergen County Tournament quarterfinals and in her last three games has allowed three hits and threw a no-hitter against Cliffside Park. She’s up to 129 strikeouts this season.

Here were the other nominees:

Giovanna Bergamasco

Passaic Tech

It was a big week for the Bulldogs catcher on an off the field. On the field, she went 7-11 in three games including four doubles, a go-ahead homer against Lakeland and seven RBIs. She was also inducted in the school’s National Honor Society on Thursday.

Madison Brickley

Saddle Brook

The Falcons went 3-0 this week, including a big league upset of Ridgefield with Brickley making an impact at the plate going 9-14 this week with a pair of doubles, seven RBIs while also scoring six runs.

Veronica Correa

Cliffside Park

Correa helped the Red Raiders to a pair of victories this week, going 7-12 at the plate, including a double, three triples and two home runs. Defensively, she was credited with two pick-off throws against Demarest.

Eliza Mullen

Ridgefield Park

Mullen scored five runs in the Scarlets win over Westwood and also homered twice in the game. She also scored a run against Mahwah and was 1-3 against Ramsey. For the week, Mullen walked six times, had three hits and scored seven runs.

Sophia Passaro

Wayne Valley

The sophomore infielder went 8-12 at the plate this week with seven RBIs, including a grand slam homer, she also drove in the winning run a in wild 13-12 win over Wayne Hills. In the field, Passaro was credited with eight putouts and multiple double plays.

Emily Reilly

Dumont

Reilly led the Huskies to three wins this week. She was 10-16 with three doubles, a triple, a homer, five RBIs, seven stolen bases and nine runs scored. She also had a walkoff single in Dumont’s win over Pascack Valley. She recorded 11 putouts without an error.

Hailey Zirpoli

Waldwick

Zirpoli has been Warriors, er, Warrior in the circle this season and put together the best week of her season. She fought through a brief injury to lead Waldwick to a win over Park Ridge last Monday. She allowed one hit against Garfield, and two hits in a win over Cresskill. At the plate, Zirpoli finished 4-6 with a double and a triple.
