Jack Attali voted North Jersey Boys Track Performer of the Week for April 17-23

After four days of voting, Demarest senior Jack Attali was selected as the North Jersey Boys Track Performer of the Week.

Attali, in his first year of intermediate hurdling, ran the fastest 400 hurdles race in four years at the Jack Yockers Bergen Relays and is already in the all-time top 30. He also anchored the Norsemen to the fastest shuttle hurdles time in Bergen County since 1978 and had one of the top five triple jumps at the meet.

Here were the other nominees:

George Kalkanis

Mahwah senior thrower/pole vaulter

He had the longest throw in the state this year and moved into 12th place on the all-time Bergen list when he hurled the spear 195-6 at the Bergen Relays. He also helped Mahwah to third place in division B in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet.

Tadael Mihret

Rutherford senior distance runner

Mihret ran strong legs on the 4-x-800, 4-x-1,600, distance medley and 4-x-s400 teams to earn the Bernard Smith Award as the Most Outstanding Boys Track Performer at the Bergen Relays.

Benji Shue

Bergen Catholic sophomore thrower

With his throw of 193-1 in the discus on Wednesday at the Bergen County Relays, Shue already has six of the 10 top performances in Bergen County history. He's #10 in the country in the event right now and the Crusaders had the fourth best relays performance in Bergen history. He also threw the shot a meet leading 61 feet and earned the Steve Finley Field Event Award.

Victor Souza

Ridgewood junior hurdler/jumper/sprinter

Souza had a busy Friday for the Maroons at the Bergen County Relays, getting them off to the quick start they needed to retain the A division title. He had the top time in the division for the winning 400 hurdles team, ran the strongest leg on the 4-x-200 team and helped the triple jump team record the best performance of the meet.

Joshua Yoon

Yoon led all division D long jumpers and triple jumpers by a large margin and ran speedy legs on the Cougars' 4-x-200 and sprint medley relay teams to lead the Cougars to 38 out of a possible 40 points and help them win the division title.
